Hello fellow AAF Toledo members! I am honored to be writing my first article as President of the American Advertising Federation Toledo Board of Gov e r nors and I look forward to working with a talented group of board members over the next year to continue to grow AAF Toledo membership and programming. AAF Toled o is a professional and social organization for individuals actively involved in the creation and production of advertising and marketing communications. The mission of the club is to provide programs and social activities that further the professional development of members in the practice of their craft, and make contributions to the community through public service and educational programs. If at any time you have ideas, questions or feedback about how we can help make the most of your membership, please do not hesitate to reach out!
 
Have you registered for AdBASH , the club's annual sand volleyball tournament? The fun takes place at The Beach at International Park on Thursday, August 10 with play beginning at 6:00 p.m. Food and t-shirts are included with registration and a cash bar will be available!
 
The Internship Event , a collaborative effort by AAF Toledo, the Press Club of Toledo and PRSA Northwest Ohio brings together students, professionals and prospective employers for a unique networking and educational experience at the Hilton Garden Inn, Levis Commons on Saturday, November 4. This annual event has traditionally featured panels, comprised of professionals within the communications, marketing, public relations and media industries. The committee is currently accepting entries for panelists to participate in the event. Those interested in acting as a panelist must submit the form linked here by Friday, August 4.

To this day, my greatest influence in writing/communications is my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Thompson, who always encouraged me to express my ideas and be an educated individual.
 
My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:
To see the new seven wonders of the world! I've visited one, so, why not the other six?
 
When nobody's looking, I like to:

Casey Pogan is Marketing Director at the Franklin Park Mall, Northwest Ohio's leading retail destination with 1.3 million square feet of retail space and 7 million visitors per year. She oversees the strategic plan and helps to develop the long-term vision for the center while implementing the annual marketing plan. Casey has been an active board member since 2012 and has been the chair of AdBID Online Auction and coordinator of the Our Favorite Things annual holiday luncheon. Casey is also a Destination Toledo CVB board member which exists to promote Greater Toledo, enhancing the economic well-being of the community through the travel, tourism and entertainment industry. Casey holds a BBA in Marketing from Tiffin University and a MBA from the University of Toledo. She currently lives in Toledo with her husband and two young daughters and donates her time to various non-profit organizations throughout the year.
1st Vice President
Ryan Hall  has been a member of AAF since 2014 and has been on the Board of Governors since 2015. He serves on the social committee, the social media committee, and helps to plan the monthly luncheon programs.
 
Ryan is a Media Buyer at Cooper-Smith Advertising, a full service Toledo based marketing agency with over 50 years of expertise in both traditional and new digital media. Ryan works with senior management to execute strategic media campaigns for their wide range of local and national clients. Ryan has a degree in Business Management from Northwest State Community College, and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Lourdes University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
 
Ryan currently resides in downtown Toledo with his wife, Kelsey. Together, the two of them enjoy attending Mud Hens and Walleye games throughout the year. They also enjoy many outdoor activities including golf, boating, and fishing.
2nd Vice President
Melanie Dunn has been a member since 2012 and has been on the Board of Governors since 2014 with extensive involvement with Toledo Celebrity Fight night and the club's Social Media committee.  
 
Melanie is the owner of Cuttlefish Graphics, a local design studio that loves partnering with executives, small businesses and solopreneurs to grow their personal and professional brands. She has a passion to collaborate with clients and fellow marketers to create cohesive visual campaigns. She is a graduate of the Owens Community College Commercial Art program and her professional background includes both agency and corporate experience.
  
Melanie resides in Bowling Green with her husband, Jason, and her beloved German Anatolian Shepherd, Moses. She serves on the board of the International Boxing Club and is a proud member of team Rock your Rack, participating in the Northwest Ohio Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Perrysburg.
Treasurer
Katelin Reinhart is the Marketing and Branding Manager at The Blade.  She is responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategic marketing plans for the entire organization to increase both readership and advertising.  She has been a member on the Board of Governors since 2015 and has been involved on the marketing, sponsorship, and social committee. Katelin earned her BS degree in Media Communications from Heidelberg University and a MBA from Tiffin University. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, Tommy, her two children Emma and Thomas and their dog Pearl.

Melanie Dunn was presented with the President's Award from Matt Rubin in gratitude for her many contributions to the club this past year. Some of these contributions include:

Professionals: Want to help shape our industry's future talent?

The Internship Event is an annual program that brings together students, professionals and potential employers. This event is designed to prepare and educate students as they begin their professional careers, helping them to find and excel in internship positions.  This presentation is free to college students in Toledo and surrounding areas.

This annual event has traditionally featured panels, comprised of professionals within the communications, marketing, public relations and media industries. This format allows students to not only learn from professionals within their desired industry, but have the opportunity to ask questions and form a dialogue with them.

This presentation will be held on Saturday, November 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Levis Commons and will include a panel of six well-regarded experts who will share their unique thoughts and perspectives with students.
 
How to become an Internship Event Panelist

We are in search of local professionals to participate as panelists and will be chosen based on the following factors:
  • Individual's ability to provide a unique perspective to students
  • Professional experience (specific industry, focus and years of experience) 
  • Volunteer / organizational involvement
  • Interactions with interns and students within their company or organization
The Internship Event planning committee, comprised of professionals from AAF Toledo, the Press Club of Toledo, PRSA Northwest Ohio, will make final panelist selections on Monday, August 21.

Panelists must submit the form linked here by Friday, August 4.

How to Submit a Guest Blog Post to AAF Toledo
  
The ideal length for a post is between 850 and 1,000 words and must not have been previously published.
  
Come up with a great idea. To be considered, AAFTOL blog topics should be related to advertising, marketing and communications. Write something that you would want to read yourself.
 
Send a proposal. Send a brief proposal to director@aaftoledo.org. Please do not send the full article. Keep it brief: a tentative headline; two or three sentences explaining what the blog will be about; and one sentence saying why you are qualified to write it. Based on this proposal AAFTOL will let you know within three business days whether to submit the article.
 
Write with the reader in mind. Writing for the web is different from writing for print. The best way to organize the piece is to start with a brief set-up that hooks the reader. Then organize the rest in segments. Assume the reader is busy and has a short attention span. Short paragraphs and headings within the article make it easier to read.
 
Include a brief bio at the top. Your name; the name of your company (with a link to your website); and if you've written a book relevant to the article, the title of that book with a link to the Amazon page or to your website if the book is available for sale there. If you tweet, please indicate that, and include a link to your Twitter profile page.
 
Submit the completed article. Please submit your final version by pasting into the body of an e-mail, or attach it as a Microsoft word document. Your submission will be reviewed by AAFTOL editorial board. If we have any questions, comments or concerns, we will contact you.
 
What happens next? AAFTOL will acknowledge receipt of the blog within 24 hours, and let you know within a week whether it has been accepted for publication. If it is, AAFTOL reserves the right to edit the article, including changes in the text, subheads and headline, to improve readability and maximize web traffic.
