Small Slams Delivers BIG to Fight
Alzheimer's Disease Nationwide
Small Slams Bridge Club, Tucson, AZ , raised over $9,000 for Alzheimer’s disease care and research during its Second Annual Longest Day event held June 21, 2018, surpassing 2017 contributions by $1,000.

Held during the week of Summer Solstice, June 17-24, 2018, The Longest Day event is sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League and is held in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association. During The Longest Day, bridge players nationwide unite to raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer’s.

“Thanks to club initiatives like Small Slams and player support, The Longest Day, now in its sixth year, has raised over $4 million to further the care, education and research needed to end this devastating disease,” said Lori Pope, public relations coordinator, American Contract Bridge League.

Over 110 players attended the Small Slams Longest Day event held at the SaddleBrooke Country Club HOA#1 Clubhouse. Bridge, canasta and Mahjong games were played in the morning and in the afternoon followed by a buffet lunch, silent auction and 50/50 raffle. T-shirts were sold to commemorate the event and to show support.

“I cannot name one person in our community who has not been touched by the tragedy of this devastating disease, be it a friend, neighbor or relative,” said Dr. Joyce Honorof, club manager, Small Slams.

The Small Slams team, Bridge for Better Brains, included: Laura Benson, Sue and Phil Bush, Jim Coe, Linda DePew, Sue Hagerty, Joyce Honorof, Cam Mette, Al Spaet, Barbara Starrett, Linda Triboulet and Sue and Jim Young.
