Gathering by the Waters
Thank You for a Successful Event!
Gathering by the Waters 2014 was the first event of its kind to kick off Milwaukee's summer sailing season. The Saturday, May 24th festival was accompanied by gorgeous weather, live Pete Seeger music tributes, partnerships between Milwaukee nonprofits and a ton of great food and music.

Over 2,000 community members spanning more than twelve counties across Wisconsin attended and enjoyed GBTW.  Guests enjoyed breathtaking views of Lake Michigan from the shores of Lakeshore State Park and embraced the activism of Pete Seeger in an afternoon hootenanny. The event was hugely successful in raising awareness for Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee.

Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee would like to extend its warmest gratitude to the staff of Discovery World and Friends of Lakeshore State Park, our performing artists, participating food trucks, the S/V Denis Sullivan crew, member organization representatives, festival attendees, and all of our volunteers who kept the day running smoothly. A special thank you to David H.B. Drake, Creative Director of Organic Arts, who was the driving force behind this event.  We look forward to hosting Gathering by the Waters Festival for years to come!

Workplace Partner Highlight
M3 Insurance
For nearly 45 years, M3 Insurance has been making an impact on businesses and organizations, the people who lead them, and the employees who make the businesses move forward. For thousands of clients, M3 and its staff of nearly 200 insurance and risk management strategists, is the resource for property and casualty, employee benefits and personal lines insurance, as well as executive benefits and employer-sponsored retirement plans.

M3 is actively committed to giving back to the communities in which its staff work and live.  The people who comprise M3 make giving back a priority, both personally and collectively as M3. In addition to encouraging employees to give back through event participation and involvement in leadership roles with non-profit organizations, M3's community impact program awards grants in the geographic areas where our employees live and work.  These grants fund initiatives that align with the company's desire to make positive impacts in the communities in these areas - health improvement, safety improvement and disaster relief, personal financial education, housing, hunger relief, and the promotion of insurance careers.  M3 also makes it a priority to support causes that are important to its employees.
Member Organization Highlight
Community First
Community First (CF) offers vital services to the Milwaukee neighborhoods that it serves by managing home rehab projects ensuring local families professional, insured, licensed and timely contractor services.

The aim of CF is to build community and stabilize neighborhoods while stimulating economic development and reinvigoration of life in Milwaukee neighborhoods through home repairs and moving families to self sufficiency. The primary funding for CF is from City of Milwaukee block grants through NIP (Neighborhood Improvement Program) allowing services to be provided at no cost to the family. Community First provides substantial repairs such as roofing, mechanical work, lead abatement and other costly home repairs.

By recognizing that the homeowners are the backbone to safe and successful neighborhoods, Community First provides these important resources for families that help them to preserve home ownership and prevent foreclosure. Though Community First has only been operating for three years, as an organization they have grown rapidly to meet the needs of the community and will continue to do so in the years ahead.
