Student of the month!
I started tapping at age five at Ms. Sherry's School of Dance in Brooklyn. My mother thought dance would give me confidence, and she was right!
I grew up in Bellmore, L.I. in a household that was filled with music. Jazz, big band, and show tunes were standard listening. My parents were good dancers and I loved watching them lindy hop and ballroom at their backyard dance parties. Coming into NYC to see musical theater was a regular family event, and we made our annual pilgrimage to Radio city to see the Rockettes.
I continued to tap up until high school and then took a long hiatus to do life. During this time I received my MSW, maintained a psychotherapy practice, got married and had 2 children, learned to blow glass and started my online glass businesses (Mazel Tov Glass.com and Pet Petalsnyc.com) Check out my websites if you are curious!.
When my daughter Carly turned 5 she was introduced to tap dance and loved it. She studied with Susan Hebach and then joined the Tap City Youth Ensemble. Because of Susan, I returned to tap. Susan encouraged the parents to learn the shim sham with her students. I was drawn in and when Tony started ATDF I found a new passion.
Tap is joyful. Tap dancing is certainly better than going to the gym! It has given me a connection to a special community, to learn about the historic artful, to make new friends, to share something special with my daughter.
Thank you Tony for creating ATDF, and a special thanks to Susan, Lynn and Barbara for your amazing teaching skills, support, and encouragement.
