Sweet Summertime
July marks the halfway point for these sweet summer months. It's a bittersweet welcome as the days grow warmer and stretch toward August.

I've been enjoying my first Midwest summer. It's hard to believe that I am well over halfway in my year as a VISTA with St. Croix Valley Habitat.

I hope you are enjoying all that the summer has to offer and staying cool when the temperatures soar.

Happy July,

Office Move: Update

The main office, currently located in River Falls, will be moving to the ReStore in Roberts by the end of August. The ReStore is located at 801 Wagner Drive.

We are looking for volunteers to help us make this move a success! Contact us today to find out how you can help in this transition.
City of River Falls Agreement

St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity has reached an agreement with the city of River Falls that continues their collaboration which led to the successful completion of the nationally recognized Eco Village community.

The SCVHabitat, board of directors and the City of River Falls have reached an agreement and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to repair both financial and good-will relationships.  The Board of Directors regrets it's serious steps in the past that resulted in non-compliance on the City's generous loan to SCVHH. The board is fully committed to restoring a strong financial status for the SCVHabitat that includes paying off the city loan and to restoring good and transparent relationships with the City of River Falls.
The City Council has approved loan terms that assure that the city is reimbursed for a loan that helped facilitate the construction of 18 affordable, energy efficient homes in the Eco Village, and allows SCVHabitat the ability to move forward and continue its mission of building quality, affordable homes in St. Croix Valley communities.
After completing the historic effort needed to take on a project the size and scope of the Eco Village, SCVHabitat is being reshaped to resume more measured construction efforts that will build on the 20 years of success as an organization building affordable housing for families in our communities.  We have had tremendous support from our community volunteers and donors and we will look for that support to continue as we begin construction planning for 2018.
Eco Village Update

SCVH has been working with the City of River Falls to complete some finishing touches at the EcoVillage. A group of volunteers, the 'Tuesday Crew', spent a day upgrading the drainage systems on 8 downspouts for better water management. Collection boxes and drain pipes were added to move the runoff from the roofs away from the houses and beyond the retaining walls. Additional projects will include completing work on remaining downspouts and installing some rock water dispersion beds.
Staff Updates

In June, due to the need to take some immediate and fairly unusual responses to our financial situation, the board of directors of SCVHFH reduced the executive director to half-time. Dave Engstrom left our organization in mid-June. We wish him well as he takes on new challenges in his career.

Meet Randy Boser, the SCVH interim executive director. Randy has nearly 30 years experience in the corporate environment with Ameriprise Financial. A few years ago, he decided to use the experience and skills gained in corporate business to support Twin Cities non-profit organizations. A long-time Twin Cities volunteer, Randy also served as the organization's treasurer and remains a member of their financial committee.

Randy started as interim executive director about four weeks ago and has the board's full confidence that our organization will pull through this immediate financial crisis, recreate itself as a smaller, more limber organization, and will return to our core mission of building affordable housing in Pierce and St. Croix counties.
