Storms & Crashes
We Had It All!
A vehicle hit the columns in front of our main entrance knocking them to the ground on the same day the tornado ripped through Patterson. Thankfully the incident occurred before the library opened for business, and no one was injured. Later in the day, the tornado toppled trees and power lines creating havoc for area residents and parents trying to get to the library to pick up their children who were attending a program when the storm hit. Library staff stayed with the kids for several hours until parents arrived and provided a safe place for dozens of motorists that sought shelter in the midst of the tornado. Thanks to our generator and dedicated staff, many of whom sustained damage to their own homes, the library was opened throughout the week to provide people a comfortable place to get a cup of coffee or tea, snacks and charge their phones and devices, and chat with neighbors as they waited for power to be restored.
