If successful, your case study will be distributed in print and via the Heart of AF, AF Association, and Arrhythmia Alliance websites and e-bulletins, as well as publicised in the media and to our members, healthcare professionals, policy makers and healthcare providers.
The Healthcare Pioneers report is developed by the AF Association and identifies best practice in the identification, diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and is used as a benchmark for other healthcare professionals to help improve AF service delivery.

World Heart Rhythm Week Update
|
|
Our aim for World Heart Rhythm Week ( 5-11 June 2017) was to:
Make one million people Pulse Rhythm Aware * Take 10,000 pulse rhythm checks * Identify 1,000 people with an irregular heart rhythm * Hold 100 Know Your Pulse events
RESULTS SO FAR: Just through our Social Media sources, we made more than ONE MILLION people Pulse Rhythm Aware.
We distributed over 600 Arrhythmia Alliance information packs to Healthcare Professionals in the UK plus many more internationally.
More than 15 countries participated in World Heart Rhythm Week.
200+ 'Know Your Pulse' events have taken place in UK hospitals and GP practices.
Collecting and collating pulse check data is ongoing however we know that we have surpassed over 10,000 pulse checks!
By making more people arrhythmia aware you have helped to highlight the importance of identifying and referring new patients who are unaware they may be walking around with a potentially debilitating or fatal arrhythmia.
If you have yet to share the results of your event please email b.helps@heartrhythmalliance.org as soon as possible.
Thank you and look forward to working with you again for GLOBAL AF AWARE WEEK 20-26 November 2017.

Take the Weight Management in Atrial Fibrillation Patients Survey
|
|
AF Association is always looking for ways to improve services and treatments for patients. Recently it has been shown that, when patients make positive changes to their lifestyle in terms of diet, exercise, smoking and alcohol, the outcomes of medical interventions, particularly AF ablation, are greatly improved. We are therefore conducting a survey in cooperation with City, University of London to understand better how lifestyle change can be incorporated into AF treatment protocols and therefore your completion of this questionnaire will be an extremely important part of that process.
The survey will take no more than 15 minutes of your time and your participation is both highly valued and very much appreciated.
We plan to publish this data and to use it positively to improve treatment for AF patients.
Many thanks in advance for your involvement.

ABBOTT / Update on ICD Premature Battery Depletion Advisory
|
Abbott- Since our initial communication to our customers and patients in October 2016, we have worked to provide consistent updates to our global customers around ongoing analysis of performance data from the affected device population.
Recently Abbott and our Medical Advisory Board analysed data from affected devices that were returned for product analysis due to premature battery depletion.
Importantly, rates of patient impact remain low and to date, adverse event rates have shown no indication of acceleration.

Screening strategies for atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and cost-effectiveness analysis
|
A national screening programme for atrial fibrillation is likely to represent a cost-effective use of resources, with systematic opportunistic screening more likely to be cost-effective than systematic population screening. Nurse pulse palpation or modified blood pressure monitors would be appropriate screening tests, with confirmation by diagnostic 12-lead electrocardiography interpreted by a trained GP, with referral to a specialist in the case of an unclear diagnosis. Implementation strategies to operationalise uptake of systematic opportunistic screening in primary care should accompany any screening recommendations.
