Extra! Extra!
Read All About It!

By: Steve Matheny
GACC Executive Director

It's hot off the presses and in a mailbox near you...it's the 2018-2019 edition of the Granville Magazine! This year we chose the theme "A Road Trip to Granville" for this annual community resource guide that arrived here in Granville on July 2 nd. Quite literally the publication takes you on an annotated and leisurely journey up and down the byways and highways of the Village and the surrounding community. Even longtime Granville residents will likely learn a historical anecdote or two about the streets and neighborhoods we blithely traverse daily.

For the first time this year we chose to mail a copy of this 52 page-perfect bound publication to all 43023 postal customers as well as selected neighboring zip codes - about 6,000 copies in total. These mailed copies are in addition to about 10,000 copies of the Magazine that we have available for bulk distribution. In the past the "Magazine" was more narrowly focused on the interests of tourists and visitors to Granville. This year we broadened the focus to include the needs, desires, and interests of residents as well. A key reason for producing this publication is to provide a community resource guide and directory of Chamber member businesses who operate here in our community. The Magazine includes an alphabetical listing of all Chamber member businesses by name, and also by business category. We encourage you to keep a copy of this Magazine/Guide handy around your home and office throughout the year as a handy reference tool. For example, did you know that there are six local B & B's in the Granville area? Useful to know when you get that surprise phone call that the extended family is coming to visit you, and Granville, for the week! Or, when you have a rush marketing/publicity need for your business...did you know that there are five eager graphic design firms right here in town that stand ready to help you out? Your handy community resource guide can help you navigate many such circumstances as they arise.

This year's Magazine also takes a nostalgic look at some of our most familiar streets and neighborhoods. It's interesting to note how much, or how little, some of our iconic buildings and streetscapes have changed. We believe you'll enjoy some of the "Yesterday" and "Today" perspectives on our familiar streets and avenues.

Finally be sure to also tune in to the 30+ advertisers who contributed to make this year's publication a reality. Without their support the Magazine would not exist. If you and your business would like to be involved in next year's effort we'd be glad to have your support. Maybe you have an idea for a theme we can use next year? We're happy to have your thoughts and ideas on the subject.
