JULY 2013 NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

The 2013 IRC Conference and Exhibition is now behind us and we want to thank all who attended for ensuring another great gathering of recycling professionals, educators and community leaders.  Thanks especially to our top notch speakers and awesome exhibitors.  If you were not able to attend you can view conference photos here.  If you like what you see, consider attending next year!  If applicable, be sure to ask about our community volunteer scholarship opportunity.  These participants often rave the most about the learning and networking opportunities provided by this annual event.

Now that the conference is behind us, staff is gearing up for two exciting recycling projects this summer.  First, we will be helping to coordinate an unprecedented recycling effort at the Indiana State Fair.  We will also coordinate a zero waste pilot project for DigIN - A Taste of Indiana - a festival in Indianapolis on August 25th.  We are excited to partner with Cummins on these two projects and will share results of these efforts later this year.  In the meantime, you can read more about the State Fair project below and you can contact Jonathan Allinson @ jonathan@indianarecycling.org to learn more about either event.

This summer we have also been working with a range of stakeholders in preparation for the 2013 legislative session and we look forward to a recycling discussion during one of this summer's (date to be determined) Environmental Quality Service Council (EQSC)* meetings.  We'll keep you post on key developments as the year progresses.

Finally, please mark your calendar for our fall gala, REVENT, which will be held in Indianapolis on November 2.  Details to follow.

Sustainably yours,

Carey

KAB'S LANDMARK PSA CAMPAIGN
In partnership with the Ad Council, our friends at Keep America Beautiful (KAB) unveiled the multimedia campaign, titled "I Want To Be Recycled," that will restart the conversation about recycling. In a society where each American produces 4.4 pounds of trash each day, this campaign will raise awareness and ultimately provide the motivation to change the behaviors of occasional recyclers to everyday recyclers.
