A warm Summer greetings from the staff here at Music Time Academy! We hope that you have been enjoying the long days and sunshine, and that your vacations have been relaxing. If you haven't had a vacation, you can at least go enjoy a music-filled Friday evening (it's like a mini-vacation!) by taking the family down to Lions Wayside Park in Pleasanton (1st & Neal) for a fun, free, family performance by Anna's Motown/Soul band, West Grand Boulevard TONIGHT, July 19th at 7pm to 8:30pm!

For those of you looking for a little extra music in your life (which is everyone, hopefully - after all, why else would you be in music lessons?), spaces are still available for our "My First Rock Band" class for young students on any instrument with any level of experience  (begins Monday, July 22nd ) and our YOU-kulele class for all ages and skill levels (begins July 29th), so please do not hesitate to register!

Student of the Month
Congratulations to Andrew Mathers!
Andrew will receive (along with priceless glory and endless bragging rights) a $30 Gift Certificate to Music Time Academy, as well as a $20 gift card to the Cinema West Theater in Livermore!

Although he originally began his studies at Music Time Academy on piano, Andrew is now one of our longest standing trumpet students, possibly holding the record for the most appearances in Music Time Recitals through the years. While taking piano lessons, Andrew also played trumpet with the elementary school band. He eventually changed his musical focus solely to trumpet, and unfortunately, piano was left in the dust. However, he has been excelling under the instruction of Mario Silva ever since! Now Andrew has been playing the trumpet for 4 years, having the opportunity to work with Ara Anderson and Will Magid while Mario was on tour.  Andrew began his Freshman year in the high school band well prepared.  
Now a seasoned performer, in addition to marching band in the fall and various concerts, Andrew performed in the pit orchestra for his high school's production of Animal Farm - The Musical, and looks forward to helping out in future productions.  In March, Andrew received an Outstanding Musicianship award at the Forum Music Festival in Southern California.  He also received special recognition from the Visual and Performing Arts department at the Academic Expo at his school. Great work, Andrew!

Teacher Feature
 For July, we would like to feature one of our lesser-known guitar instructors, Chris Mahon. Chris has been teaching at Music Time Academy for over 1 year, specializing in guitar instruction on Saturdays. If you're not in thew studio on Saturdays, You may recognize him from several blazing guitar solos during the teacher performances at past recitals.
 
An especially experienced and professional guitarist, Chris has not only been playing and studying guitar for over 15 years, he has also performed at hundreds of events in countless bands and ensembles of different genres. Although Chris' speed, dexterity and musicianship shine most in the more guitar-centered genres of rock, pop and metal, Chris also is highly skilled on jazz, funk, soul and acoustic guitar playing. Chris hosts a weekly jam session at Red Hat in Concord every Tuesday night (sorry kids 21+ only), in addition to performing with current band, Bully West.
