BANNER MAUMAIL
The Maumelle City Code provisions have allowed the discharge of   fireworks on July 4th each year during certain time frames.
Fireworks are allowed during the hours of
4:30pm-10:30pm on July 4th only; provided,
that any fireworks discharged under this exception shall not be discharged by any person in or around any group of 25 or more   people and shall not be discharged in, on, or from any public, commercial, or industrial property, including but not limited to parking lots, parks, fields, sidewalks, and public roadways.

A Note from the Mayor
The summer heat has finally arrived in Arkansas. However, the activities in July do not slow down, as we kick off the month with a "BANG". Maumelle Fourth Fest, a City sponsored event, will start at 4:30 pm on July 4th with a parade and will end around 10:00 pm with a fireworks display. The complete schedule of the day's activities is on the website and in the newsletter. All of the events except the parade will be held at Lake Willastein; be sure to bring a blanket or a lawn chair and celebrate with your friends, families, and neighbors.

The Dowell Naylor Aquatic Center at the Jess Odom Community Center is a great place to cool off this summer. In addition, the Parks and Recreation staff has planned several day camps for children of all ages, and there are two Quickstart Tennis Camps scheduled for July, if you have children interested in learning how to play tennis.

The Maumelle Children's Theater will be presenting a production of "The Emperor's New Clothes" on July 5th and 6th at Little Scholars Academy on Maumelle Blvd.

The Steering Committee for the strategic planning process met in June and will meet again in July to develop final recommendations, which will be submitted to the Planning Commission and the City Council later this summer.

In the industrial park, Medline has started moving into their new facility, which is Maumelle's first LEED certified building. Also, John Burkhalter has submitted building plans for a new 60,000 square feet building in the industrial park, next door to Fresenius Medical Care North America. The first tenant for that building is Sky Zone, an indoor trampoline park. It will occupy 25,000 square feet.

This newsletter's primary purpose is to help you stay informed about events in Maumelle and what city officials and city departments are doing. And don't forget, the monthly City Council meetings and the monthly Planning Commission meetings are open to the public.   I encourage you to attend and hear firsthand the decisions that your elected officials are making on your behalf.

Recycling

On 6/17/13 the Maumelle City Council adopted Resolution 2013-21 Authorizing the Mayor to Contract for Recycling Services with a 5-3 vote. Resolution 2013-21 authorizes the Mayor to contract with the Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction District and Waste Management of Arkansas for residential recycling curbside pick-up services. The fee for the Single Stream Recycling program will be $3.07 per month per household. This is the current program that is available in Little Rock, North Little Rock and Sherwood that will allow more items to be recycled at the curb than is currently available in Maumelle.

Community
Garden
Coming Soon!
First United Methodist Church Maumelle is forming a community garden and is inviting Maumelle residents to reserve a raised bed for their families.
Sizes of the beds are 4x4, 4x6, 4x8 and 6x6. An annual fee of $20, $25, and $30, depending on size, will be charged to cover water and maintenance. As part of the mission of the garden, a portion of everything grown will go to local food pantries to help feed those in need in our community.

Groundbreaking for the garden will be August 4 at 10:30 am with Mayor Mike Watson attending. Construction will begin the following weekend with a dedication in September. Fall planting can begin as soon as the beds are ready

To find out more about the garden or to reserve your raised bed, call First United Methodist Church at 851-2377.
