July 2017
Last Friday, we hosted our Metrics That Matter webinar and shared how to translate data into content that inspires action, including tactics on how to fully leverage data in your community through education, advocacy, and marketing.

Headlight Data's newest complimentary tool for economic developers is our July 2017 ranking of the Fastest and Slowest Growing Large Metro Economies of 2016 and a new Annual Economic Scorecard

The  Fastest and Slowest Growing Large Metro Economies of 2016  compares  job growth in all industries among major metros. The rankings also include interactive maps and search functions that allow you to look at how your community performs against others.

The Annual Economic Scorecard is our newest of three Economic Scorecards. The Annual Economic Scorecard includes data for counties, metros, and states. In each scorecard you'll find information such as percentage of job growth/decline, comparison to U.S. national averages, and top performing industries.

All the information and graphics from Headlight Data's growth rankings and economic scorecards are free for you to use, so we encourage you to take full advantage of these resources!

For those of you we didn't see us at ACCE's Annual Convention this month, there's another opportunity to connect with Avalanche at SEDC's 2017 Annual Conference!

Amy is speaking at  SEDC's 2017 Annual Conference  on August 21st at The Westin in Charlotte NC (less than a month away!). She will lead a discussion called Talent Attraction - Millennials and Get Y.  Access to talent is today's top driver of site decisions. Competitive communities are taking bold measures to ensure they have a steady supply of relevant skills to fuel their economies for years to come. What specifically are they doing to proactively prepare their talent pipelines and align leadership around this challenge? Amy's talk will explore best practices for growing a sustainable, responsive talent pipeline at home.

The Beacon Council, the economic development organization for Miami-Dade County, is celebrating the 5-year anniversary of our completion of their  One Community One Goal economic strategy (OCOG). All OCOG metrics have exceeded original goals and OCOG continues to gain momentum today. Congratulations Beacon Council and all OCOG stakeholders!

Pflugerville's economic development strategic plan, completed this Spring, was featured in the Austin American-Statesman, including key takeaways and quotes from PCDC's Executive Director Amy Madison and Avalanche Senior Consultant Tony DeLisi.

The City of Frisco produced an amazing video on Economic Development as part of the city's 100 Days of Progress in Motion initiative. Expanding Economic Development one of the top priorities in Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney's 100 day plan.

Not only did we have three clients make the list of The Top Cities for Minority Entrepreneurs, but they all made the top three. Congrats  HoustonMiami, and Atlanta!

Sarasota, Charleston, and Miami made Coastal Living's 10 Beach Towns with the Highest Quality of Life (and made us want to take a vacation).

We love our clients and celebrate their success.  Cheers!

Trips to Atlanta, Sonoma, and the ACCE Annual Convention made for a busy July! After a refreshing 4th of July holiday at home in ATX, we headed to Atlanta to continue our discovery process and lead our second workshop with the CATLYST Strategy Committee. Next, Amy and Chris attended the ACCE Annual Convention in Nashville to lead a panel discussion on the difficulties of growth in a community. Our panel included amazing representatives from the Fort Worth Chamber, the Charleston Metro Chamber, and the Douglas County Chamber. Noelle rolled out our strategy to the Baytown-West Chambers County EDF's board of directors.  And, we topped off July with our first trip to Sonoma County CA to begin the County's new 5-year CEDS.
