Make a Difference, Be a Table Captain
This October, we will be hosting our 6th annual AZA United Caring Hearts Luncheon at the Omni Montelucia Resort in Paradise Valley.  Click here to see last year's event.

This signature event is designed to raise funds that support our programs for kids and families affected by autism. This year, our fundraising efforts are to support AZA's expansion plans to help more families in the valley. While there is no cost to attend the luncheon, guests will be asked to consider making a donation.

We are seeking volunteers to act as Table Captains for our 2017 Luncheon.  Table Captains play a vital role in the success of this event! Duties include:

  • Attend a Table Captain orientation in August.
  • Invite up to 9 people to sit at your table.
  • Act as a table host during the event.

If you are interested in being a Table Captain, please contact our Outreach Director at [email protected] or 602-773-5780. Thank you!

New Blog: Planning for a Successful School Year
Summer vacation is ending and the new school year is just around the corner. Many children feel anxious upon the new school year. They may face a new classroom, new friends and teachers or maybe an entirely new educational environment. The more prepared we are to tackle the school year, the less anxiety your child may experience. So how can we help our children prepare for the school year?

Allow your child to partake in shopping for their school supplies. The child can assist in obtaining the correct amount and style of supplies. If you feel your child may be overwhelmed by a vast array of options, select a few items that you think they would like and give them a choice. For example, if your child likes The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Minions and Paw Patrol, show them the 3 backpacks and let them make the final decision.

If your child is anything like mine, their backpack is full of additional items that they have to take to school. Things like an augmentative communication device and additional therapy supplies can significantly increase the weight of a backpack. Some children benefit from having a rolling backpack versus a traditional backpack that can cause stress to their bodies. Rolling backpacks are also a great tool to help your child get accustomed to being responsible for their own belongings when it comes to traveling.
