Holiday projects

The school holidays are nearly upon us and many of you will be packing your bags and visiting pastures new.  If you are anything like us, choosing which knitting and crochet projects to take is almost harder than packing your suitcase so we have chosen some projects that you might like to take with you.
Linientreu by Ute Nawratil is a beautiful and intriguing shawl.  We will be making this using Noro Taiyo Sock yarn that has lots of cotton and silk in, making it a comfortable knit if you are travelling to warmer countries.

Lass dein Haar herunter ! by Micha Klein whcih means Let your hair down like Rapunzel and is from Micha's Fairytale collection. We love the travelling cables.

Erigeneia by Silke Terhorst is so reminiscent of a sunrise and a lovely project to keep you inspired for your entire holiday.

Do let us know about any other patterns you have spotted.
New products for 2016 - Part 1

We are delighted to be able to showcase some of the new products that will be launched in your local yarn shop from August - we think our product development team have really outdone themselves.  This month we will be looking at needles and hooks, while next month will be all about accessories.

Royale - the colour coded laminated birch wood needles - were a huge hit when they appeared as a limited edition set for Christmas last year.  Now we  have decided to introduce the complete range in individual sizes.  A major development in this range is the swivel mechanism which allows the cable to rotate for kink-free knitting.  In addition to the individual needles, these are also available in sets of double, single pointed and interchangeable needles.

A dream come true for those chunky knits and crochet projects, the Jumbo Birch Wood Needles & Hooks are available in sizes 20mm up to 35mm. The circulars, available from 20mm upwards, come with new tubular cables that make handling chunky yarns so easy.

Basix birch wood needles from KnitPro have proved so popular that we have decided to increase the range, which will now start from size 2.00mm.  Normal & Special Interchangeable Circular Needles have also been added to this  range by special request.

The ever-lustrous Zing needles are very much in demand by knitters, gathering accolades from the entire spectrum of users. They are now available in sizes up to 12.00mm and, most exciting of all, a deluxe interchangeable needle set

To help make the knitting of small diameter projects such as sleeves, dolls clothes, gloves and socks, KnitPro has introduced 25cm fixed circular needles in both Symfonie wood and Nova metal in sizes  2.00 to 5.00mm.

We hope you enjoy our new ranges.

The Book of Haps

The whole hand knitting community was waiting with a huge sense of anticipation when Kate Davies launched her new book, co-authored by tech knitting supremo Jen Arnall-Culliford - The Book of Haps.

Kate has written a really interesting couple of essays about the history of the hap, which is basically a shawl that wraps around the body, and a pictorial dialogue showing the hap in illustrations and old photos from the 19th Century right up to more modern offerings.

Alongside the fascinating history is a collection of delicious patterns from some of the world's top designers including Romi Hill, Carol Feller, Gudrun Johnston and Martina Behm.  The only problem with this book is knowing which project to cast on first!

Which knitting or crochet books have you enjoyed recently?
