Change in Class Schedule for Mission West School for Ministry

Please note these changes for the final two classes in our 2016 line up.  Instead of Inter-Generational Christian Education we will present two sessions of

Taking Church to the Community

No longer can we simply ask, "What can we do to get people to come to our church?" We must also consider, "How can we go into the world to encounter those in need of the gospel?" Through engaging videos, presentations, and supplemental materials,  Taking Church to the Community  explores strategies your congregation can use to reach beyond its walls with worship, community events, ministries, and service - meeting community members where they are and moving them toward discipleship.

Topics will include
  • Seven Practices of an Outside-In Church
  • Go Where the People Are
  • Becoming an Interactive Congregation
  • Blessing Your Community
  • Discipleship 101: Getting Ready
  • Ministries and Community Engagement: Heading Out!
  • Reaching Out through Community Events

Help us Build the 2017 Curriculum for Mission West School for Ministry

The Mission West School for Ministry provides educational offerings for commissioned ministers, to meet their annual requirements for standing.  But it is also open to all clergy for continuing education and to lay leaders in the congregation for leader development.

It is time to put together classes for 2017.  This year we would like to offer as many opportunities, in as many locations as we can across our wide geography, to make them easily accessible to all.  Our classes happen on Saturdays, from 9 AM - 3 PM, with lunch provided, in local congregations.  Each class must offer content from one of the 16 Areas of Ministerial Practice, which can be found in our CCSW Commissioned Minister Educational Policy, here.

We are looking for ordained clergy, teachers or other professionals who would like to teach one Saturday class in their home congregation in 2017, on any topic of interest or expertise that falls within the Areas of Ministerial Practice.

We are looking for suggestions of already scheduled workshops or classes, that perhaps you have participated in the past, that you think might be helpful for the clergy and lay leaders in Mission West.

We are looking for  suggestions of topics/classes you would like to see presented to enrich the ministry of your congregation.

If you would like to volunteer or make a suggestion, or even ask more about this, please email Charlotte Hoppe, Lead Minister, choppe@ccsw.org.  The MW Area Committee on Ministry will be creating the 2017 schedule in September, so please send your ideas in by August 15.
Cargo4theCongo Campaign

In 2010 Rev. Barry Loving, from FCC Amarillo and a couple others from FCC Lubbock represented the High Plains Area on a mission trip with Global Ministries to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  We began a relationship that is on going today with Rev. Bonanga and the CDCC in the Congo.

We identified the need for Rev Bonanga and his staff, to minister more effectively to all the parishes in the Congo, of a modern boat and possibly a few 125cc motorcycles for his pastors as they travel through the jungles of the Congo.  The time has come for us as partners in this relationship to help raise funds to help meet this need.

We are beginning the campaign of Cargo4theCongo to raise $20,000 to fund the boat and the motorcycles.  These items if purchased in the Congo are well over $100,000!  We pray we are good global partners and can help meet these needs of the neediest of the needy!

We would love for you to join us in this effort.  If you feel compelled to donate, please follow this link:  http://fccama.org/47

If you would like to speak with Rev. Loving about this project don't hesitate to call him at 806-355-6526.

Regional Minister Search Input
Members of the Regional Minister search committee will host a series of Regional gatherings to share in prayer and conversation as we develop a profile of our Region that will enable prospective candidates to have a better understanding of who we are and what our hopes and dreams are for the work of the Church through our Region. The schedule of meetings will be released soon.

There should be two meetings in Mission West and will be announced soon.  If you are unable to attend one of the meetings, you can still submit your answers to the Search Questionnaire via e-mail, mail, or on the Regional website. For more information and to see the list of questions, click here . And in the meantime, please keep the search committee in your prayers as they engage in this important and holy work.
