Geocaching 101 at Harris Lake County Park

Meet at the Amphitheater behind the Cypress Shelter
Geocaching is like a treasure hunt where participants use GPS coordinates to track down hidden "caches". Learn what geocaching is all about and take off to find a geocache in the park. We will provide a GPS unit per family and instruction on how to use them.Feel free to bring your own unit or smartphone with a geocache app.
Citizen Science Thursday
Thursday, July 26; 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
For ages 10 and up; Free
Meet at the Cypress Shelter
Volunteer your time with our monitoring and citizen science projects. Tasks will vary depending on what needs attention. Tasks may include: cleaning or repairing habitat boxes, installing new ones, or monitoring our current boxes Come prepared to learn and work as you manage our natural resources. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves and a water bottle
. All participants must have a signed Volunteer Release and be
registered in our online system.
Observing Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and the Full Moon
Friday, July 27; 8:30-11:30 p.m.
For ages 6 and up; $1/person
Meet at the Loblolly Shelter to check in
Join us on the play field at Harris Lake County Park for some really cool night sky viewing through telescopes and binoculars. If the weather cooperates and you are willing to stay late, we will be able to see three planets later in the evening.
Dress for the weather, bring
a blanket or camp chairs, your own viewing instrument if you have one and
water.
Online registration is required for all participants. (Cloud/Rain date is Saturday, July 28)
Fabulous Fish Nature Lab
Tuesday, July 31; 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
For ages 7 – 11; $20 per child
Meet at the Cypress Shelter
Spend time at Harris Lake County Park learning what it takes to be a great angler! Discover the fish species we have here at the park, learn about our lake and pond ecosystems, practice your best cast and then hike to our stocked pond to go fishing
for catfish. Fishing poles and bait will be provided, or you may bring your own pole.
Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle.
