We will be closed on the 4th! Enjoy the day with your families!

Dear Friends of A Novel Experience,

The pool awaits! Our annual  tabletop wading pool  holds a delicious collection of great summer reads! They are all gently used books--those titles you were meaning to put on your book pile and never got around to, seduced by another must-read. Come check it out--the best thing about reading used books is that beach sand, surf, and injudicious handling is no big deal--one can just enjoy.

The 4th is this Wednesday. We're in fireworks territory for the next several days complemented by pop-up thunder showers (anyone who owns a phobic canine can't miss it). For inspiration, try reading the Declaration of Independence or, for a traditional treat, tune into NPR radio on the morning of the 4th when all the commentators take turns reading this document. It's a great way to remember how our country began--and the courage and commitment of our Founding Fathers.

July 7th is the last day of Steve Harrison's gallery show--we hope you've been by to see his diverse collection of paintings and drawings. Besides selections from his career as a medical illustrator, it turns out that Steve's first love is race cars. He's just arrived in Pike County from Arizona and heard about our local race driver phenom--Madeline Crane aka "Mad Maddie". As part of his show, Steve arranged with her grandfather to present her with a drawing of her race car. We welcome Steve to our community and look forward to his plans to teach art lessons. And, we wish Madeline best of luck in her racing career!

Monday, July 9th marks the opening of  the second annual Zebulon Show! Jurors Greg and Jennifer Blair picked a show from a great selection of entries--stop by and see if you can identify the who-what-where of these winning photos. Our reception for the photographers will be Saturday, July 21--come on by, meet them, and take in the Juror's Talk at 6:30--it's always interesting to hear how the images were chosen. And, keep an eye out for this year's photos--we'll be posting them all month on Facebook!

We've brought back one of our favorite things: "What I'm Reading Now". Every month we feature one of our customers on a poster with their current favorite title--if you are totally engrossed in a new discovery, stop by and we'll take a picture of you and the book and maybe, you'll be our featured poster person for the month! (You get to keep the poster after the end of the month!)  And, poster or not, stop by and let us know what you are reading!

                                                                        All of us at ANE!

Steve surprises Madeline with a painting of her race car while grandparents Virgil and Sally Brown look on.
