How on Earth

The paintings in How on Earth are expressionistic plein air landscapes in oil on canvas, but a closer look reveals sentence fragments culled from Green's book - repurposing and transforming the words as they take on a more literal meaning yet maintain the sense of depth and mystery, making Green's work compelling to old and new fans alike.

How on Earth - inspired by and celebrating the release of Green's book from Siglio Press, Bough Down. Lauded by critics and fellow authors,  Bough Down is a fusion of poetry and prose in conjunction with images from her past show, Tiny Stampede.

Joel McCrea

"Ride the High Country" Film Screening

Tribute to Joel McCrea, with special guest acclaimed Cowboy Poet,

Larry Maurice

Now considered one of the last great movie westerns, "Ride The High Country" was the film that put director Sam Peckinpah on the map. Featuring South Pasadena's own Joel McCrea

who by the time he retired after 80 starring roles during Hollywood's Golden Age, he was declared "The Last of the Great Cowboy Film Heroes."

Master of Ceremonies will be acclaimed Cowboy Poet, Larry Maurice who will also be introducing the film with Wyatt McCrea, one of the grandsons of Joel and Frances. Wyatt and Larry will team up to conduct a Q & A along with David Lyons, the son of the film's producer Richard Lyons. Larry Maurice will perform some of his cowboy poems too.

We Believe

"We Believe" Film Screening
 by Award-Winning Filmmaker
John Scheinfeld

The extraordinary love affair between Chicago and its baseball Cubs will be celebrated with a screening of "We Believe." The film contains super-rare and never-before-seen vintage footage --including the earliest known film of a Cubs game from 1909, footage of Chicago shot by Thomas Edison in 1897, the first color films shot at Wrigley Field in 1938, and dozens of rare and previously unseen photos from the earliest days of the Cubs.

The free event will also feature an introduction and Q & A by John Scheinfeld, who presented his award-winning documentaries, "Who Is Harry Nilsson" and "The U.S. vs. John Lennon" to enthusiastic full house audiences in the Library Community Room in 2010 and 2012.  Former Chicago Cub utility player and pinch hitter Carmen Fanzone (1970-74) will also participate in the Q & A and sign autographs.

All events will be held in the Library Community Room at 1115 El Centro Street.  No tickets or reservations are required.  Doors open at 6:30pm.
