Words from Will...
D-Day Concert

We are on our way to France for D-Day!
While we are in France with the choir, First Church is privileged to hear from two fine preachers who have been serving us well during this time of transition. This Sunday, we will hear the word from Dr. Capt. John "Van" Dickens, recently retired as a chaplain with the US Navy. Van and Kathy have been giving us extra support in the area of pastoral care and Van has been a regular participant in services as liturgist and occasionally as preacher. This will be Van and Kathy's last Sunday with us as they are moving to Iowa to be near their grandson. The exciting part is that due to his experience in ministry with the great people of First Church, he is talking to the Bishop and District Superintendents there about taking a pastorate. We know that when that happens, Van and Kathy will be a great blessing, just as they have

been to us.

On June 10, the preacher will be Kevin Karschnik. Kevin is not only a United Methodist Lay Speaker, he makes his living as a motivational speaker. He is the co-owner of iSpeak Inc. and has co-authored the book, Corporate Ovations: Your Roadmap to More Effective Presentations. During the last two years, he served as an interim pastor in Dripping Springs. You will appreciate his vibrant faith and approachable style as he shares the gospel.

Then, on the evening of June 10, our Annual Conference delegation will officially meet Rev. David Johnson, our next Associate Pastor. We are already planning the summer preaching schedule and you will be glad that David is coming our way. He moves into the parsonage on June 22. The Trustees are doing some work (light carpentry, painting, landscaping, etc.) to get the parsonage ready for David. If you can lend a hand, please contact David Riskind, david.riskind@gmail.com and/or 512.567.6256.

On that same day, Tina and I will travel to San Antonio for the retirement ceremony for Col. Dr. S. Patrick McCain, our associate pastor who will join us in September.

So, lots of things are happening. I sure hope there won't be a shipwreck! Actually, there will be, as that as the theme for our two weeks of Vacation Bible School this year. See you when we get back.

Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature

Spotlight on...Music Ministry
Summer Choir
Join the Summer Choir
Are you interested in singing with one of our choirs on Sunday mornings but don't know how to get started? Here's your chance! Summer Choir is an opportunity to experience leading in worship from the choir loft in a very different way. In July and August, the choirs will not have weekly Wednesday rehearsals, but will still lead in worship on Sunday mornings. The choirs will not wear robes and will sing music that is accessible with minimal rehearsal time prior to the services.

This is a great time to try singing in worship from another viewpoint and to meet new people in our church. The choirs are covenant groups who share in the love of Jesus Christ through their music. We'd love to have you be a part of this incredible ministry! If you have questions, please contact Michael Rosensteel, Director of Music Ministry, at michael@fumc-rr.org, or 512-255-3336 (ext. 140).
Calling all handy helpers
Parsonage volunteers

Calling all talented volunteers to help us spruce up the church parsonage
Do you think sawdust is a condiment? Are you handy with a hammer and saw? Do you measure twice and cut once? Are you a skilled painter like Picasso? Do others marvel at your green thumb? Do you possess great attention to detail?

If you answered  Yes! to any of the above questions, you are a strong candidate to help prepare the church parsonage for our new Associate Pastor, Rev. David Johnson's arrival on June 22! We need painters carpenters, caulkers, cleaners, gardeners, etc.

If you are willing and able to assist with any of the above opportunities, please contact David Riskind at David.riskind@gmail.com and/or 512.567.6256 to learn more about your assignment(s). Click here for more details...

Acting Boldly
5 week Sunday School Series begins on June 10, 9 :40 am in Bldg. 5-148
As a more in-depth follow-on to Bishop Lowry's recent Pentecost sermon, this study is intended to take class discussions and considerations into uncharted territory...the wilderness if you will. Lead teacher Sam Kyzar (assisted by Ted Keller) will use Bishop Lowry's new video series, Acting Boldly: How the Acts of the Apostles Can Guide Today's Church Through the Wilderness. This study offers practical insights on how we as the church and individuals of faith can gracefully and boldly step into today's world and remain fully faithful to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. All are welcome, no registration needed.
