Cowgirl Chef Demo and Cookbook Signing

ElliseCowgirl Chef Pierce, the brains and beauty behind the oh-so-popular blog, Cowgirl Chef, will be at the market this Sunday.

Using market ingredients, she'll "throw together" a dish from her cookbook and then autograph copies. This cookbook is more than just recipes, it's stories of her trials, cries, laughs and ultimately successes after moving to Paris to be with the love of her life.

Tasty, healthy and fun, this book is a terrific addition to your collection, as well as a thoughtful gift for your foodie friends or for those needing inspiration in the kitchen.

Demo will begin at 9:30 am with book signing to follow. Cookbooks will be available for purchase at the market.

2 New Vendors: Partridge in a Pie Tree and Dos Lunas Artisan Cheese

Partridge in a PIE Tree

You may have read or heard about Tonya Bates, chef/owner of Partridge in a PIE Tree. She was recently featured in San Antonio Magazine and is a participating chef in the Special Projects Social pop-up dinners.

With 25 years in the biz, this lady knows food. She sources locally, cooks nose-to-tail and uses sustainable processes and packaging. Her crusts are legendary and her flavors combos are winning! Sweet and savory, pickles and other treats.

Dos Lunas logoFor many, it's no surprise that Joaquin Avellan makes amazing cheese. It's in the blood. Joaquin's father is also a cheese maker--in Venezuela. After helping his dad recover from heart surgery several years ago in Venezuela, Joaquin became a cheese head, too.

Once he returned to Austin, he missed the process and practice of waking up at 3 am to milk the cows. He decided to put his film editing career on hold while he followed in his father's footsteps and started Dos Lunas.

Using raw milk from grass-fed cow's, Joaquin has succeeded in making truly unique cheeses such as ricotta, queso fresco, cheddar and assorted other varieties. Vaya con quesos!

Please help us welcome these two new additions to the market!

Musical Guest: Buzz Guerra
Buzz poster 2012

This Austin native got his first acoustic guitar when he was 10 and began exploring the world of music. He is self-taught and recognized that he had an "ear for music."

Buzz Guerra has played and toured with bands, but what he really loves is playing acoustically. His musical style is diverse and includes Mexican classical, jazz, bossa nova, Latin, blues, country, pop, light rock and mariachi.

He says, "My music is a testament to my experiences, expressing my feelings of happiness and sadness, joy and sorrow."

Featured Vendor: 3-G Farm

3-G Farm

Curtis and Debbie Stiefer are both newly retired, but decided not to "retire" and become full-time farmers.

They live on the family farm started by Curtis's grandfather, hence the name 3-G Farm for the three generations this venture represents.

Last week, the Stiefer's brought the season's first melons to the market and quickly sold out! Their black diamond watermelons and cantaloupes are sweet and delicious.

Once you taste their sweet corn, you'll want more, along with black-eyed peas, onions, peppers and cucumbers. We're delighted to have them as part of the market family.

Fresh Pick: Peppers
Peppers
Poblano, serrano, green and banana peppers
If you are looking to spice up your culinary creations, now is the time! Choose from rich poblano peppers, spicy serranos and jalapenos, mild green peppers and almost sweet and spicy banana peppers.

Perhaps pickled peppers is in your future or grilled peppers, here are a few ideas to get you fired up to cook with peppers.

Special Arrivals

Squash blossoms It's always exciting when the farmers bring something unique to the market. There's a quiet hush and then you hear giggling and rejoicing.

We have recently seen nopales, asparagus, micro greens, tomatillos and now
squash blossoms,
flor de calabaza, appear!

This Mexican delicacy is lovely. Saute them in olive oil for a few seconds until they turn bright orange and add to quesadillas or place them on top of a medley of sauteed squash. Just be sure
and try them...

And remember these treats disappear quickly,
so come early!

Dog of the Week

Spotted poodles
These two Parti Poodles can usually be seen strolling the market with their owners, but lately they have all been missing in action.

When we spotted them last Sunday (pun intended),
we had to take a picture!
