Our speaker this month is Senator Joseph Cryan who represents the 20th District.  
Sen. Cryan was elected to the Senate in 2017. A former member of the New Jersey General Assembly, Assemblyman Cryan represented legislative District 20 from 2001 to January 4, 2015. He resigned after he was elected sheriff of Union County in 2014. Mr. Cryan served as the Majority Leader in the Assembly and chaired or served on over a dozen different committees in the legislature. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, and also serves on the Law and Public Safety Committee.
During his tenure as Sheriff, Joe Cryan led the men and women of the Sheriff's Office in their commitment to excellence and professionalism. Under his leadership, he oversaw a successful gun buy back program and worked with state and local law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of Union County streets and neighborhoods.  
He has been honored and recognized by many organizations throughout his career. Senator Cryan was also the first general chairman of the Union County Saint Patrick's Day Parade committee and is the standard bearer of the Cryan Association, an Irish-American civic charitable civic organization.
Senator Cryan resides in the Township of Union with his wife Kathy and daughter Katie Peterson. He also has a son, John, and daughters Megan Bell and Hannah Peterson.

A Record $35,000 Awarded To Elizabeth High School Seniors By Rotary Club of Elizabeth :
American Dream Scholarships Benefit 20 Worthy Students 
Twenty deserving graduates from Elizabeth High School received a record total of $35,000 from The Albert & Louise Davis Scholarship Fund of the Rotary Club of Elizabeth at a special meeting of the Rotary Club held recently at the Garden Restaurant, Union.  These "American Dream" scholarships will allow 20 students to attend such schools as Rutgers, University of Pennsylvania, Stevens Institute, Gettysburg College, George Washington University, NJIT, Saint Peter's University and other institutions of higher learning.
Over 75 applications were received and reviewed by the scholarship selection committee.  Applicants are evaluated on the basis of grade point average, extracurricular activities, civic involvement and financial need.  "We always get outstanding applications, but this year our students truly raised the bar," explained Kenneth Richuso, member of the Rotary Club of Elizabeth and President of the Albert & Louise Davis Scholarship Fund.  "They are pursuing careers in such diverse fields as dentistry, pediatric, film, neurology, nursing, physics, chemical engineering and psychology.  We are all very honored to help them pursue their goals."
This year's scholarship winners included: Kiara Abreu, Victoria Antunes, Maressa Bento, Alinet Done, Carolina Fernandes, Omar Husni, Asia Lewis, Briana Matos Esteves, Carolyn Moreira, Tyler Nichols, Ross Perez Collado, Cassiel Ramierz, Daniel Reguinho, Alyne Restrepo, Alexys Smith, Aniyah Smith, Joseph Torsiello, Zandra Trivino, Mary Ann Vargas and Yvonne Wiafe.
Established in 1986, the Davis Fund has given a total of $573,000 to 373 students.
The 2018 Rotary Davis Fund Scholars are flanked by Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage _left_ and Davis Fund President Ken Richuso _right_.
