Goodwill of the Heartland announces CEO
Pat Airy has been named the new CEO of Goodwill of the Heartland and will begin serving in that role June 18. Ms. Airy, the agency's chief operations officer, was selected from a pool of 80 national candidates.
Ms. Airy joined Goodwill of the Heartland more than 25 years ago as a job development specialist, helping to create jobs for people served by Goodwill of the Heartland. After pursuing other opportunities for a short time, she returned to lead the organization's human resources department. Over the years, she has taken on responsibilities for the agency's Industrial contracts division, information technology, quality initiatives, continuous improvement and leadership of human services programming in the Cedar Rapids area.
"Pat brings an unmatched depth and breadth of knowledge about Goodwill of the Heartland that will suit us well as we grow and work through challenges in the human services field," Terri Davis of Shuttleworth and Ingersoll, chair of the Goodwill of the Heartland board of directors, stated in a press release. "Pat's personal leadership and her enthusiasm to help others develop their leadership skills are valuable assets that made her stand out."
In addition to her work at Goodwill, Ms. Airy has been involved in the Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary Club, Trees Forever board of directors, the Parent Education Consortium Board, Junior Achievement and the Society for Human Resource Management.

ICCA presents study results
This morning, the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance presented the results of the Arts & Economic Prosperity IV study, an economic impact analysis of the arts and culture industry in the Corridor.
The study showed that the industry generates $79.8 million in total economic activity, $50.2 million by nonprofit arts and culture groups and an additional $29.6 million in event-related spending by audiences. The industry supports 2,761 full-time equivalent jobs and generates $52.4 million in household income to local residents. It generates $7.4 million in local and state government revenue.
The study analyzed spending in fiscal year 2010. In the Iowa Cultural Corridor, 62 of the 166 total eligible nonprofit arts and culture organizations identified by the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance participated in this study, an overall participation rate of 37 percent.

Kosovo president in Iowa this week
For the first time in history, the President of the Republic of Kosovo is visiting Iowa. President Atifete Jahjaga is in Iowa until June 15, as part of the U.S. Department of Defense State Partnership Program.
He will be accompanied by Ambassador Akan Ismaili, Kosovo Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador William Christopher Dell, U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo, Brig. Gen. Xhavit Gashi, Kosovo Defense Attache' to the U.S., and Maj. Gen. Tim Orr, Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard.
During the trip to Iowa, the Kosovo delegation will meet with Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds, visit Iowa State University, tour a cattle farming operation and wind energy facilities, meet with community leaders and economic development experts, tour Des Moines University, and meet with senior leaders from the Iowa Judicial Branch and Graceland University.

CR to host national Antique Automobile Club of America meeting
Cedar Rapids will host the 2012 Antique Automobile Club of America Central (AACA) Central Division National Spring Meeting June 21-June 23. The Cedar Rapids AACA Region will also be celebrating its Golden Anniversary - 50 years as an official AACA regional car club.
The weekend will include several different seminars, activities and the car show. The event will be held at the Cedar Rapids Marriott and the adjoining Rockwell Collins parking lot and will showcase various antique cars such as old Model T Fords and early 20th century Oldsmobiles.
Events on Friday will consist mostly of informational seminars led by local experts and AACA National Board members as well as a National Board Round Table and an informational meeting for the judges for the show. Other activities throughout the weekend include a Get Acquainted reception, antique shop bus tours through Marion, Friday Night in the Park at Noelridge Park, and an AACA Youth Program event.
The main event of the weekend, the car show, will take place on Saturday. The Show Field, located in the Rockwell Collins parking lot, opens at 7 a.m. with judging beginning at 11 a.m. Guests are invited to view the cars all day on Saturday until the awards ceremony at 7 p.m. The event will culminate with cocktails and socializing followed by the awards ceremony where various awards for the presentations of the cars will be distributed.

Some lucky Eastern Iowa resident is a lot richer this morning. Iowa Lottery officials say a Powerball ticket worth $241 Million was sold at the Hy-Vee grocery store at 5050 Edgewood Road in Cedar Rapids. The winning ticket holder - or holders - has yet to come forward. We do know the store will get a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Lottery officials say it`s the 15th largest Powerball jackpot won in the state.
After months of delay, the University of Iowa will begin a two-day hearing today to consider whether a suspended radiology professor should be fired for a pattern of abusive behavior toward colleagues. The university administration is expected to lay out its case against Malik Juweid as a hearing officer determines whether he violated school policies and makes a disciplinary recommendation to the school's president. Mr. Juweid's been suspended from his $241,000-per-year job since early 2011.
Cedar Rapids-based Rockwell Collins says it's received a contract from the Australian Defense Force valued at $68 million. The defense contractor will provide a battlefield system that includes a tablet computer, laser target designator and other features. The system allows special forces and artillery units to identify targets with greater accuracy.
