Community As HealerJune

Greetings! ,

WelcomeArticles in this issue are:  "Love, Money and Stuff," looking at how "consumption" of "stuff" is used to fill an emotional/relational void , "Time and Money," revealing how as ones paycheck increases, one's sense of available time decreases, and  "Virtual Thievery" about my recent experience with an incredibly sophisticated attempt at an internet scam, where someone wrote to me seeking therapy, but turned out to have another agenda.

The Friday, May 20Living From the Heart workshop  at David Sneickus and Margaret Arndt's home in Newton was delightful! We are doing a Community As Healer evening on Friday, August 5.    For more information contact msarndt@verizon.net

My monthly Sunday afternoon Community As Healer gathering will next meet in Newton on  June 19.   Together we can create safe healing space in the larger world, and  empower people to literally, "lend a helping hand."

To help raise the visibility of EKP, I have established a new HealingHeartPower meetup group.  To join our meetup group....

I have created a new Community As Healer group on Facebook, for people who want to be part of or support this healing work.  http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Community-As-Healer/192746177418410

The Sunday night EKP therapy group seeks new members.  It is a wonderful way to do deep healing work in a safe, community space, and work on vision and goals as well.

You can also "like us" on our HealingHeartPower  Facebook page. By "liking us", you will be notified whenever a new blog post is published.

What is EKP?
EKP is Emotional-Kinesthetic Psychotherapy, a heart-centered, body-centered psychotherapy method Linda Marks developed and has taught and practiced for nearly twenty years. Working with the heart, touch with permission, the wisdom of the body and the intuitive guidance of the spirit, EKP creates a special sense of intimacy that deeply touches and transforms most all who participate.

Participants can be "client," witness or helper as an individual group member has a "turn" to do deeper heart-centered, body-centered psychospiritual work in the center. Since the electromagnetic field of the heart extends out 10 - 12 feet from our bodies, as we go deeper and open our hearts, we are all touched.

EKP helps restore our capacity as organs of perception. The skin is our largest organ, and a source of soul deep knowing, perception and expression. When our hearts and hands can work as one, we move beyond defenses safely and respectfully and find freedom, connection and expression.

COMMUNITY AS HEALER

Friday August 5  8:30 - 10 pm

at the home of Margaret Arndt and David Sneickus

This evening workshop provides an opportunity for you to be part of a healing community.  Using EKP, you will have a chance to literally "lend a helping hand," and experience the power of the heart that comes with literally "reaching out to touch someone," with permission, as part of a healing team.

Emotional safety is the foundation of EKP.  When we are emotionally safe, we are more aware of feelings, sensations and deeper thoughts in our bodies and hearts.  You will have a chance to listen to and care for your heart as you help create and hold a safe healing space for everyone's heart.  Experience what we mean when we say that in EKP, "when anyone has a turn, everyone has a turn."

A recent article in Time Magazine, reported a new psychology study

that reveals that "people who feel loved and accepted by others place lower monetary values on material possessions than folks who feel insecure and unloved."  When people don't feel valued and appreciated by other people, they turn to stuff to fill the emotional and relational void.

There are many psychological studies on how we compensate when we don't get what we really need.  Most addictions are rooted in this kind of compensating behavior.  And because the secondary source we turn to (food, work, money, stuff) often still leaves us feeling incomplete in some way, we keep wanting more and more.  We can't get enough of what we don't really need.

What might be at the heart of our "crazybusy," time-crunched way of life in today's world?  It may not just be more things to do, according to research by organizational behavior professors Sanford DeVoe of the University of Toronto and Jeffrey Pfeffer of Stanford University.

Professors DeVoe and Pfeffer actually trace the roots of "the modern time bind" to rising income over the past several decades.  Apparently, as people's pay rises, the stress they internalize to do more faster increases.  When a person is paid less, they feel more permission to go at their own pace.

We all know about the internet scams involving supposed death bed stories in Nigeria or inheritances waiting to be claimed by long lost previously unknown relatives.  However, imagine you receive what appears to be a sincere note from a potential client seeking therapy or another form of healing, and proceed to exchange e-mails over one month's time setting up sessions times, and discussing your work and fee structure, only to discover days before the first session is supposed to take place, that the whole "relationship" is actually just an attempt at stealing money in an internet scam?

This happened to me over the past month, when a person who posed as an American in London for business, wrote to seek counseling regarding the end of a relationship upon "her" return to Boston at the end of May.  Like many out of town clients I have worked with, she offered to send a check for the 4 weekly sessions she booked prior to her first face to face session.  However, when the check arrived, it was for $2500 more than the cost of 4 therapy sessions.  While it looked like a bank check, my intuitive alarm was sounded after I wrote and asked if I should just cash the check and give her the extra when I saw her later in the week.

She wrote back and asked me to send her the $2500 by Moneygram, claiming to need the money for her trip to Boston.  That did not make sense.  I would have expected her to have already purchased her plane ticket 3 days before her intended arrival in Boston.  I took the check to my local bank, and discussed the situation with the teller supervisor.  He said it would take 2 weeks to determine if the check was counterfeit or real, but the fact that it was so much more than the fee this woman owed smelly fishy.  He would not cash the check since he wanted to protect me.  Glad I asked!

When I wrote to the woman to say my bank would not cash the check, I heard nothing back.  Poof!
Beware the internet thievery may be taking on more and more sophisticated forms!

My first blog at www.heartspacecafe.com/blog will still be active, but it is built in forum software, which many people find more cumbersome to use than official "blog" software.

In an effort to cultivate more dialogue in more contemporarily relevant ways, my new blog at HealingHeartPower.blogspot.com is user friendly, and even something you can subscribe to.
Please let me know what you think of this new blog.
