DCH Auditing Covered Dependents Enrolled in SHBP

The Department of Community Health (DCH) held its regular meeting on Thursday, June 9, 2016. DCH governs, among other things, the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) for public school employees. During his report, DCH Commissioner Clyde Reese III indicated that SHBP is currently undergoing a dependent audit. The purpose of this audit is to determine if current covered dependents are in fact eligible for coverage under the rules. If any educator receives correspondence from DCH regarding this audit, it is imperative that the educator submit all requested documentation in a timely manner.
DCH to Create On-Site Work Clinics Pilot Progam

Commissioner Reese also indicated that DCH will create a pilot program establishing on-site work clinics for state employees and teachers. The goal is to assist with state employees having quicker access to healthcare so they do not have to take time off work if the immediate health issue can be addressed at the on-site clinic. This program will not initially go statewide, but pilot locations will be established in the near future.
Express Scripts Audit and RFP for Additional Medicare Advantage Vendor

SHBP will soon engage in a financial audit of Express Scripts, the pharmacy benefit manager.

On Friday, June 4, 2016, DCH released an invitation for proposals for an additional Medicare Advantage vendor. Currently, United Healthcare is the only vendor for Medicare Advantage. Chairman Reese indicated that a second vendor should be available by mid-August.
