Garden Volunteer Session, Mad Fun Farm
Concrete Safaris
Date/Time: Saturday, June 11 and/or Saturday, June 18, 10 am - 1 pm
Location: June 11; Mad Fun Farm (Meet at 1775 Third Avenue at 98th Street and Third Avenue just east of the flag pole within Washington Houses)
June 18; Jefferson Gardens (Meet at 300 East 115th Street just east of Second Avenue outside of the Jefferson Houses Management Office)
Join Concrete Safaris to help clean and beautify this community garden. Tasks may include: shoveling topsoil and wood chips, composting, creating paths, planting, raking, weeding, and more. Dress in layers and bring a water bottle.
Ages: All ages; an adult must accompany children
Time Commitment: Three hours

Achilles Hope and Possibility (5 Mile Race and Kids' Races)
New York Road Runners
Date/Time: Sunday, June 26, 9am start, Kids races begin at 10:30
Location: Start & finish in Central Park, West 67th St & West Drive
This road race is a special event that brings together athletes with disabilities along with able-bodied athletes for a celebration of running with a very unique atmosphere. Kids races are free and begin at 10:30am and traditionally include disabled runners, as well. There is a post-race festival with a variety of activities for the whole family.
Ages: All ages; children's races are for ages 2-12

Lady Bug Release

Date/Time: Saturday, June 18, 12:30 - 1:30pm
Location: Elizabeth Street Garden, 203 Elizabeth Street, NYC
Join the Elizabeth Street Garden as they release thousands of ladybugs into the garden and learn how these critters are helpful to the environment and control pests. Did you know that one adult ladybug will eat more than 5,000 aphids in its year-long lifetime? Enjoy the ladybug release, examine ladybugs with magnifying glasses, and learn fun ladybug facts.
Ages: Everyone is welcome to participate
Time Commitment: One hour

Keeping It Green For Families
Central Park Conservancy
Date/Time: Sunday, June 5 and Sunday, June 19 (Father's Day) 10am - noon
Location: Central Park
Celebrate summer with your family by helping to keep Central Park green. Environmental educators will lead mulching and leaf-raking projects throughout the Park. Closed-toe shoes are required. This program is for families; no groups. Space is LIMITED, advance registration is required. This program is made possible by the GM Foundation.
Ages: Families only, maximum of 3 children per parent/guardian; no groups. Children need to be age 5 or older. An adult must accompany all children under age 18.
Time Commitment: Two hours

Hippo Playground Project Spring Fair RESCHEDULED BECAUSE OF A RAIN-OUT IN MAY!
Hippo Playground Riverside Park NYC
Date/Time: Sunday, June 5. There are multiple 90-minute shifts available. You may sign up for one or more of these shifts:
- 10 - 11:30 am
- 11:30 - 1 pm
- 1 - 2:30 pm
- 2:30 - 4 pm
Location: Hippo Playground - entrance is at Riverside between 87th or 90th Streets
VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED for this fun family volunteer opportunity, working at the Hippo Playground Project Spring Fair. Volunteers are needed to take tickets, distribute prizes and assist young children with fair activities and games like spin art, face painting, flower pot painting, cupcake decorating, ball toss, etc. Funds raised will be used to maintain the Hippo Playground. If you can't help out, come and join the festivities. All proceeds from the Fair go to support the Hippo Playground Project which maintains Hippo Playground, provides free and low-cost art and music classes at Hippo Playground and provides seed monies for repairs and replacement equipment in playgrounds within northern Riverside Park.
Ages: Families are welcome to volunteer. An adult must accompany children between the ages of 8-14. Teens 15 years and up may volunteer alone.
Time Commitment: 90 minute shifts, 3 hour shifts and full day shifts. Full day shift volunteers will receive lunch, drinks and snack. We also have a two-hour set up shift from 8 - 10am.

Shelter Clean-up at St. Francis Xavier
New York Cares
Date/Time: Sunday, June 5, 1 - 2:30 pm
Location: St. Francis Xavier, 46 West 16th Street
Help St. Francis Xavier clean and revitalize the shelter it operates. Volunteer tasks will include sweeping floors, cleaning the kitchen/bathroom, and changing linens. The shelter provides beds to a dozen homeless men and is open seven nights a week, year-round.
Ages: Families with children 12 and older accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, with a
signed waiver.
Time Commitment: One and one-half hours

Paint a School with PubliColor
New York Cares
Date/Time: Saturday, June 11, 9:45am - 3pm
Location: Claremont, The Bronx
Buddy with a student member of the Publicolor Paint Club, which uses student and adult volunteers to paint schools and brighten up community sites in inner-city neighborhoods. Please bring a $10 donation for pizza lunch.
Ages: Families with children 12 and older accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, with a
signed waiver.
Time Commitment: Three hours
