We are looking for fosters who will work with trainers, foster a bully breed dog and be their voice to help the "bully breed" become a true bully ambassador!"

Pet Therapy & Paws-To-Read Programs

The
Mary Cerniglia-Mosher
current Pet Therapy and Paws-to-Read Program Director, Anita Bowie-Marsh, is retiring. Anita is moving from the area, but wanted to make sure that these valuable programs had a new Director to continue the valuable therapeutic community service they offer. We'd like to introduce to you the new incoming Director, Mary Cerniglia-Mosher.

M ary cares deeply about all animals and the value and impact of the animal/human bond.   Mary has adopted several rescue dogs, cats, ferrets and is currently fostering for the shelter.  Mary and her dog Cuddles have been involved in the Paws-to-Read Program at the Charles County Public Libraries for quite some time now and is enthusiastic about taking her passion and making the two programs grow.  Mary has a wealth of knowledge about feral cats and wildlife and will be helping with the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) Program.  Mary currently resides in the Southern Maryland area with her husband James.  Mary recently retired from the Federal Government, and is extremely excited to be heading up these two programs.

Please join us in welcoming Mary to the HSCC volunteer team.
Mary will be contacting pet owners that have expressed an interest in theses two programs. If you are interested in participating in the Pet Therapy and Paws-To-Read Programs, we'd love to hear from you.  You can email any questions you might have or to inquire about how to join the team.

We'd like to introduce Joe Ruffalo who has been volunteering since 2007 in the Pet Therapy and Paws-To-Read Programs.  Joe and his dogs, Gus and Lilly do pet visits at Genesis Elder Care in La Plata, and the Charleston Senior Community located in Waldorf.  Joe also volunteers for the Paws-To-Read Program at the Charles County Public Library located in La Plata.  Joe lives in the Southern Maryland area with his wife Linda. He retired as a 20-year Air Force veteran in 1999, and currently works at the
National Airport Fire Department.  Thank you Joe, Gus, and Lilly for your dedication to these valuable programs which brings such happiness to the residents of Southern Maryland. We are extremely grateful for all you do!

If you would like more information on these programs, please CLICK HERE to read about the Paws-To-Read or Pet Therapy Programs.

We would love for you to get involved. Please send an  email  with any questions you might have.
