Tackle Weeds at Forest Park in Everett
Forterra/Green Everett Partnership
 
Date/Time: Saturday, June 4, 9am - noon
 
Location: Forest Park, 802 E Mukilteo Blvd, Everett. Park in the upper parking lot, past the Rec Office. Volunteers will meet at the picnic shelter next to Cedar Hall, just east of the playground near the tennis courts.

There's no better way to start your weekend than by taking in the fresh air at a local park and getting your hands dirty! Come find out for yourself by coming out to Forest Park and volunteering with the Green Everett Partnership! Help us to improve the habitat of this park by removing invasive weeds and spreading mulch to add nutrients back to the forest. Restoration work parties are a great way to give back to Everett Parks, meet new neighbors, build community, and burn calories. Come dressed to work outside (rain or shine) with sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Tools, work gloves, light snacks and coffee provided .

National Trails Day
Green Kent

Location: Clark Lake Park, 120th Ave. SE, Kent

National Trails Day is a celebration of America's magnificent trail system. This year the City of Kent will be improving the trails at Clark Lake Park by adding 100 feet of gravel in a spot where mud likes to take over.  Get out and enjoy this 130-acre park by helping to enhance the trails! Volunteers will be helping by digging out grass and soil to create a trail, spreading gravel and enjoying Kent's great trails! Please bring a shovel or pruners/loppers, if you have them. Dress for inclement weather and wear work gloves and sturdy shoes or boots (no sandals or flip-flops are allowed).

Ages: Families are welcome to volunteer.

Green Kent Work Party to Remove English Ivy

Volunteers are needed to remove English ivy and spread a little mulch at this beautiful wooded park near Park Orchard Elementary. Please bring a shovel or pruners/loppers, if you have them. Dress for inclement weather and wear work gloves and sturdy shoes or boots (no sandals or flip-flops are allowed).

Supermarket Saturday Food Drives

The FamilyWorks Resource Center is a warm and inviting place where families and individuals are welcomed and encouraged to participate in programs and activities designed to support and enhance a nurturing and vibrant community. Supermarket Saturday food drives are a great opportunity to engage the community in conversations about how the food bank helps our community. Volunteers give shoppers flyers that list the non-perishable goods the FamilyWorks Food Bank needs, they shop and as they leave, give volunteers their donations.
 
Ages: Families with children ages five and up are welcome to volunteer.

Location: The Greenwood Senior Center (GSC) raised beds are located at both the GSC (525 N 85th) and Greenwood Station (Fremont Ave N & N 89th St).
 
Got a Green Thumb? Or just like to play in the dirt?  Volunteers are needed to plan, plant, water, weed and harvest in our raised veggie & herb garden beds. Harvests are used in the daily lunch program at the Greenwood Senior Center, providing fresh and healthy options. The Greenwood Senior Center is a program of the Phinney Neighborhood Association, a nonprofit community organization whose mission is to build community by providing programs, services and activities aimed at connecting neighbors and fostering civic involvement in our community.
 
Ages: Families with children ten and older are welcome to volunteer.

Help Restore Juanita Bay Park

Date/Time: Saturday, June 25, 10am - 1pm
 
Location: 2201 Market Street, Kirkland. Parking is available in the parking lot and along the street at southwestern boundary of the park.

Join the Green Kirkland Partnership to help with the restoration of Juanita Bay Park. Volunteers will spend the morning doing a mix of restoration activities which may include removing aggressive invasive species like ivy and blackberry, spreading mulch over cleared areas and planting native trees, shrubs and groundcovers. Please dress for the weather (layers are encouraged and rain gear is a must most times of year!), wear close-toed shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle and snacks to munch on. Tools and training will be provided.
 
Ages: Families with children age five and older are welcome to volunteer. An adult must accompany youth under age 14.

The mission of Northwest Harvest is to provide nutritious food to hungry people statewide in a manner that respects their dignity, while fighting to eliminate hunger. Our vision is to ensure that ample nutritious food is available to everyone in Washington State. Northwest Harvest is the only nonprofit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington with a network of more than 370 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools. Through this network, we provide more than two million meals every month. Volunteers will work directly with clients. Tasks include sorting, packaging and distributing food.

Ages: Minimum age of 9 (or 3rd grade). Adult chaperones are required for volunteers up to age 15. Sixteen and 17 year olds are able to volunteer on their own with a parent permission form on file, however, adult chaperones are needed for groups of 16 and 17 year olds and one adult is needed to be the primary contact. All volunteers must be scheduled in advance.

Meal for Mary's Place Night Time Shelter

Date/Time: Dinner every evening at 6pm, weekend breakfast Saturday and Sunday at 8am
 
Location(s): North Seattle location (1155 N 130th St): providing a meal for 70 people (no pork)
Guest House location (2213 8th Ave): providing a meal for 100 people (no pork)  

Mary's Place is an agency that provides homeless women, children and families rescue, respite, nutrition, safety and shelter in a setting where relationships are affirmed, love and hope are discovered, and a new future begins. In response to the increasing numbers of homeless families, Mary's Place has opened five emergency family night shelter programs, expanded services for children and families at our downtown Seattle Day Center and recently opened a second Day Center for families in north Seattle. Volunteers are needed to provide meals to families at the North Seattle and Guest House locations. Volunteers are welcome to stay, serve, eat, and enjoy the families company but if volunteers are not able to stay, the gift of food is still very much needed.
 
Ages: All ages can volunteer as long as a parent supervises children. Multi-family groups of up to 15 volunteers are welcome to volunteer.
 
Time Commitment: Off-site cooking time and up to one hour of serving time

Feed Kids this Summer: Volunteer at HIP's Summer Meal Sites
Hunger Intervention Program
 
Date/Time: Weekdays, June 27-August 26:
  • Food Prep: Mondays and Wednesday, 9am - noon and 5 - 7pm
  • Food Serving: Monday through Friday, 11:30am -1:30pm and 3 - 4pm
Location: HIP has seven sites in the NE Seattle/South Shoreline area.

During the summer HIP runs a free summer meals program for youth. Volunteers are needed to help serve meals, lead youth in activities, and prepare food. Volunteers can help out in the kitchen preparing nutritious and fresh lunches. Volunteers will both help serve youth lunch and engage them in fun activities, crafts, and games. HIP prefers to have volunteers who can commit to coming regularly for the whole summer (like once or twice a week) but can accommodate some flexibility in schedule.

Ages: Appropriate for all ages. An adult must accompany children younger than 14.
 
Time Commitment: Two hours or more per week.

Help North Shorewood Become a Healthier Forest and Celebrate National Trails Day!

King County's award-winning Parks and Recreation system consists of 200 parks, 175 miles of trails and 28,000 acres of open space. Volunteer events begin with a discussion that includes information about King County Parks, the park you are serving in, why this work is important, and tool use and safety. King County will supply work gloves, a jug of water, light snacks, all instruction and tools. Please plan to arrive on time for the start of the event and allow extra time to find parking. Valuable information about the park and instruction on the project is given at the start of the event and it is important for all volunteers to be present. Volunteers will be removing noxious weeds English ivy and Himalayan blackberry from an area in the park where native plants were installed this past winter. Volunteers will also learn how these invasive plants work and how they can impact the health of our urban forests. 
 
Events run rain or shine so please arrive prepared for the weather.

What to Bring:
  • Layers of warm clothing that can get dirty. Jeans or thick pants are ideal; stretchy leggings, shorts or capris are not recommended.
  • Rain jacket and rain pants
  • Closed-toed shoes are essential. Sturdy sneakers, rain boots or hiking boots are ideal
  • Full water bottle
  • Lunch and snacks
Ages:  Families with children five and older are welcome to volunteer. An adult must accompany young people under the age of 16. Any minors under the age of 18 attending the event without a parent or legal guardian must also bring a signed youth waiver to event in order to participate.

Turn right onto Issaquah-Fall City Road and follow for 2 miles. At Endeavor Elementary School, take a right on to Issaquah-Fall City Rd. The parking lot will be located on your left (North side of the road).
