Annual Town Hall Meeting and
MEDALS Awards
 
Youth Committee hosted the Annual Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, June 14. 2016 at Town Hall Council Chambers.

Congratulations to the 2016 MONEY grant recipients, other Local Prevention Council funded projects, and MEDALS Award recipients.

Stratford Partnership for Youth and Families said goodbye and a special "thank you" to our three retiring youth members. Winnie Etienne,
Olivia Mastroluca and Darrin Bosco have been role models for their peers and 
influential to our work. We wish you the best of luck in college and hope to work with you in the future!

 Stratford Partnership Holds Stratford's
1st Asset Building Classrooms (ABC) Training
Stratford Partnership for Youth & Families School Asset Committee, 
Patty Hines, Denise Keegan and Lauren Cavalli, trained 120 students and 20 teachers from all Stratford Schools, including St. Mark and St. James, about Developmental Assets and began planning ABC activities
for the 2016-17 school year.

Youth Committee Volunteers at the
Annual Wayne's Walk 5K at Short Beach
Youth Committee members attended Wayne's Walk 5K on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Short Beach, running the Tie-Dye and Tattoo Station.

Community Updates:
  • As of June 30, 2016, the Medication Drop Box has successfully collected and properly disposed of 2,719.2 pounds of medications since October 2013.
  • Stratford Police Department in collaboration with CT Liquor Control conducted an unannounced off-premise alcohol compliance check on June 18 of 25 establishments that sell alcohol, where all off-premise retailers were found in compliance. 
  • Stratford Police Department in collaboration with CT DMHAS Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program connected unannounced compliance inspections on May 25 of 15 stores that sell tobacco products. Two establishments, Wheels at 440 Lordship Blvd. and the Honeyspot Motor Lodge at 360 Honeyspot Rd., were found in violation to selling to minors. 
  • CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction  Services toll-free number to connect those seeking treatment for an opioid addiction to walk-in assessment centers is-- 1-800-563-4086.For a complete list of walk-in assessment centers and their hours, please visit:   www.ct.gov/dmhas/walkins .

Everybody should be able to have a good time in the summer, even people in recovery. But the emphasis we place on alcohol at beach parties and BBQs can make the season tough.
