"The Catalyst"

June 2016

Executive Director's Corner

June is always an exciting time in Rankin Baptist life! Vacation Bible Schools are in full swing in our churches, people are going on mission trips and many of our folks attend the Southern Baptist Convention. Also, mission activities are going on with our Hands Up Outreach Ministry as we have teams of teenagers coming in to work with us.
Formerly, the third Sunday of June was the number one day for collect phone calls in the U.S. (Fathers' Day), but with the advent of cell phones that is not a problem anymore, so hopefully you dads out there will get a phone call (and maybe a gift).
So far, 2016 has been an interesting year for the Rankin Association personnel-wise. At the beginning of the year we hired Floyd Steverson as our Facilities Manager. Then, upon the retirement of Hassel Johns, we hired Jan Guyse as our Ministry Assistant. Now, we are facing the last month with Diane Thompson as our Executive Assistant. She will be leaving us at the end of June. Her husband, Roy, retired at the end of March and they will be moving to Corinth to be near their children and grandchildren. They hope to sell their house in Pearl before they move, so if you know of someone looking for a nice home, give her a call. Diane has been a wonderful asset to our ministry here at RCBA. We will miss her greatly! Recently Diane and I interviewed her potential replacement, and upon our recommendation the Administrative Committee voted to hire her. We are not ready to reveal her name as she is still employed. However, I can say that we are excited about her coming and she is excited about joining our team.

Lunch is served

God interrupted a storm and gave us a beautiful day for The Nursing Home 5th Annual Golf Classic.  God blessed us with the best tournament ever.

Seventy-seven golfers participated.  Buffalo Wild Wings served the best food for the event.  Great prizes were won and the winning teams received a combined $1800.00.

On behalf of countless residents in nursing home whom will receive ministry because of those teams, our wonderful sponsors and NHM Staff say "Thank You!!"

Senior Adult Luncheon

Men and women from six association churches enjoyed fun, food and fellowship at the Celtic Senior Adult Luncheon sponsored by Rankin WMU at Lake Harbor Baptist Church on Saturday, April 2, 2016.  It was like stepping back in time.  The fellowship hall looked like a medieval  castle with black and gold accents and plaid table runners down the center of each table.  As they listened to Celtic music, guests dined on a feast fit for a king and everyone got a door prize before the afternoon was over.  We were all challenged by our special guest, former MBCB Senior Adult Director, Glenn Shows to continue to serve the Lord no matter how old we are; it's all a matter of perspective!  Barbara Sanchez led in prayer for all our missionaries who were having birthdays that day.

Thank you to Lake Harbor Baptist Church for allowing us to use their facilities; Penny, Frank & Krista Perry for a wonderful meal, Frank for making sure everyone had their picture taken, Brother Shows, and everyone who attended.  We all had a memorable time and look forward to next year!  Hope you can join us.

Pinelake report
It has been a great spring here at Pinelake Reservoir, and I can hardly believe it's almost summer. We had a packed house on Easter, with hundreds of servant leaders welcoming guests. Over 250 students gathered for DNow weekend, and 70 (yes, 70!) students stood up in front of all their friends on the first night to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior! 75 people joined a new small group at GroupUP, and over 80 people took their next step in becoming a disciple-maker at re:DISCIPLE. Throughout the month of May, we have a full slate of baptisms scheduled. We have much to celebrate!

CWJC & CMJC Graduations
The CWJC & CMJC Graduation - Celebration Theme for the Spring Semester was Love Out Loud, Mark 12:30 -31, Loving our neighbor.  The Inside Graduation was held at the Flowood Satellite with 125 inmates receiving certificates for classes taught by local volunteers. The classes range from Celebrate Recovery to Etiquette,  Manners and Purity. Our Outside Graduation was held at FBC Richland with five finishing their First Semester Requirements and six finishing their Second Semester Requirements. Our English as a Second Language (ESL) Group had six complete their requirements. Also, we had four  participants complete all their requirements for their GED Diploma this semester. God is blessing this ministry with volunteers, teachers, cooks, encouragers and mentors. We praise Him for 31 decisions made for Jesus Christ this semester.  Thank you for your support during this Spring Semester!

Thank you so much to Flowood Baptist Church and volunteers for providing the Encouragement Bags this month for Baptist Hospital and St. Dominic.  Appreciate you and your service to others!!

Note this month from patient:

Dear Sir, Madam or Children,
I was at the Baptist Hospital this afternoon getting a blood transfusion.  Upon arrival at the area I was told by the nurse that this bag was for me to take home.
To my surprise, I was a given a bag filled with items of food, candy, literature, a Bible and others items from the Associational church.  I can only say, Thank you very much.

Upon leaving the note he turned and said - "You Baptists sure know how to take care of people!"
