CancerCare Launches Patient Values Initiative

Cancer therapy decisions are often made in ways that aren't consistent with the established ideals of patient-centered care. Cancer Care has launched the Patient Values Initiative (PVI), a multi-pronged project intended to identify ways that patients' priorities can be integrated into treatment planning.

Our first PVI report, compiled from interviews with patients and social workers, discusses patients' current role in treatment decisions and suggests a need for further resources to ensure that patients' care is aligned with their values.

CancerCare Clients Share Their Stories

Shortly after Ron was diagnosed with anal cancer, he knew he needed support. "I had an illness and thought I was just going to live with it and make the best of it, but that wasn't really getting me anywhere," he recalls. "And I couldn't understand cancer; I was really kind of lost."

Ron credits his Cancer Care support group with helping him find connection and learn to manage stress.
