  • Saturday, June 3 - Mad Fun Farm (Meet at 1775 Third Avenue at 98th Street and Third Avenue just east of the flag pole within Washington Houses)
  • Saturday, June 10 -Jefferson Gardens (Meet at 300 East 115th Street just east of Second Avenue outside of the Jefferson Houses Management Office)
Join Concrete Safaris to help clean and beautify these community gardens. Tasks may include: shoveling topsoil and wood chips, composting, creating paths, planting, raking, weeding and more. Dress in layers and bring a water bottle.
 
Ages: All ages, an adult must accompany children.
 
Time Commitment: Three hours

Muslim Volunteers for New York has organized its 2nd Annual Ramadan Food Drive to benefit the New York Common Pantry and their commitment to alleviating hunger and poverty. Ramadan is a special month for Muslims throughout the world. It is a time for self-reflection, fasting, spirituality, and charity. We invite you to join us in this effort and illuminate NYC with our collective charity and compassion.

Serve Dinner to Seniors
UJA Federation - New York: Time For Good
 
Date/Time: Monday through Friday, 4:30 - 6:15pm
 
Location: The Sirovich Center, East Village
 
Help create a welcoming environment and serve dinner to seniors at our Sirovich Center for Balanced Living, an innovative senior center in the East Village. The Sirovich Center is looking for volunteers to serve dinner in our main dining room for approximately 50 members. 
  • Greet seniors and help create a welcoming environment
  • Cooperate with evening kitchen staff
  • Make sure lines are orderly for buffet style service
  • Ensure cleanliness of tables and room both before, during and after meals
  • Opportunity to assist evening kitchen staff with meal preparation or clean up
Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to volunteer
 
Time Commitment: Come one time or make it an ongoing activity! There is a one hour commitment minimum.

Achilles Hope and Possibility 4-miler
New York Road Runners
 
Date/Time: Sunday, June 25, 9am start, Kids races begin at 10:30
 
Location: Central Park

This event, which brings together athletes with disabilities and able-bodied athletes, is a celebration of running with a very special message. Free T-shirts for kids, medals for all finishers (four-mile race and the kids races) and surprises make this annual event a local favorite. Kids races traditionally include many participants with disabilities as well .

Ages: Kids races are for children ages 2 - 12

Servers/Pantry Food Preparation
Masbia Soup Kitchen Network
 
Date/Time:
  • Servers are needed Sunday through Thursday, 2:30 - 6pm
  • Food and pantry preparation crew are needed Sunday through Thursday, 8am - 2:30pm
Location: Masbia of Flatbush, 1372 Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn
 
The following volunteers are needed:

1) Server and Host/Hostess - Dinner Service
  • Greet customers warmly; when needed, assist them in signing in and choosing a table
  • Apportion hot, kosher dinner plates for customers in the order seated
  • Serve dinner trays directly to customers in the order seated
  • Assist with busing table and trays, wiping tables and, if needed, closing-up tasks
2) Pantry and Produce Preparation Crew
  • Work closely with Masbia of Flatbush staff to intake large food shipments
  • Organize Masbia's cellar, refrigerator, and storage facilities
  • Prepare and count bags of fresh produce in advance to be distributed Thursdays to clients in need
  • Masbia is a kosher facility and cannot permit any outside food or beverages.
Do not wear: sandals, flip flops or any other open toe shoes, high heeled shoes, short cut shorts, short cut skirts, or tank tops.
 
Ages: Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age to serve during dinner, from 3 to 5:30pm
Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age to assist with meal and pantry preparation 8am- 2:30pm
 
Time Commitment: At least two hours per shift. Masbia prefers that volunteers come on a weekly basis, though other time commitments are welcome.

Keeping It Green For Families
Central Park Conservancy
 
Date/Time: Every Sunday in June
 
Location: Central Park

Celebrate summer with your family by helping keep Central Park green. Environmental educators will lead mulching and leaf-raking projects throughout the Park. Close-toe shoes are required. This program is for families only. Space is LIMITED, advance registration is required. This program is made possible by the First Republic Bank.
 
Ages: Families with children age five and older are welcome to volunteer. An adult must accompany children.
 
Time Commitment: Two hours

Anytime is a good time to express your gratitude to other people. Keep your car stocked with a DIY Kindness Kit and be ready to create thank you notes at any time. Fill your kit with:
  • Candy (melt-resistant works best in the summer)
  • Blank cards
  • Stickers
  • Colorful pens and markers
