BOAT LIFT trailer – first in UK
Here at Kingston Marine Boatyard in East Cowes we have just taken delivery of a new self-propelled boat mover, the first trailer of its kind in the UK from Italian brand BOAT LIFT.

The boat mover has a maximum lift capacity of 30 tonnes with multi-directional, 90° steering on all four wheels that enables side crab steering and makes the trailer immensely manoeuvrable. Powered by a 38hp Yanmar engine, the boat mover is also self-levelling.

The unit will radically reduce transit times from the hoist dock area to the main yard, increasing efficiency and throughput, which will take further strides as the new custom-built cradles arrive this month and throughout the summer.
Marine operations with KMS
Our Kingston Marine Services (KMS) team has been busy with a wide variety of marine operations in and around Cowes Harbour and locally in the Solent.

Back in March, the KMS team found themselves on “night shift” work for Red Funnel when they teamed up with Red Funnel engineers, hydraulic work contractors and Island Crane Hire. The task involved changing one of the four, 3 tonne hydraulic rams, as part of a maintenance programme; these rams are used to adjust the height of the linkspan at the Red Funnel East Cowes car ferry terminal.

In May, the KMS afloat team carried out refurbishment works on the Watch House beacon light, which is located 100 metres to the south of Trinity Landing, by the Island Sailing Club. Also in May, Kingston Marine Services was called upon one weekend to assist MMC Diving Services with a salvage at Seaview after a boat owner had came back from lunch to find his vessel sunk on its mooring.

Brain Tumour Research Randonnee
One of our Kingston Port Operatives, Shaun Turner, will be taking part in next month's cycle randonnee on the Island to raise money for Brain Tumour Research ; a charity that is close to his heart following diagnosis and treatment three years ago for a large brain tumour on his frontal lobe.

The Brain Tumour Research Randonnee 2017 is on Sunday, 16th July and is a 68 mile cycle around the Island. Shaun will be taking part along with a number of other Cowes Harbour Commission staff. We wish them all well and hope that the randonnee is a fundraising success.
