Building a Ramp in Hardwick
Another great day in the annals of history for the Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity in the Northeast Kingdom: Weather was perfect!
Thanks to a great team of volunteers including Ron, Rose, Bob, Jake, Gerry, Steve and Bruce, and to the pre-assembly work by Ron, Bob and Rick, the various components arrived ready to assemble.
We pulled the existing stairs off the deck and replaced them with a 5' x 5' landin
g and then
quickly added a 28' ramp and a 5' x 5' concrete pad at the end
.
We paused for a marvelous lunch prepared by Rose on the spot: hamburgers, pasta salad, chips, fruit, and fresh brownies. We finished by 2 pm.
S
plendid meal and satisfying day!
And now, most importantly, Dwanetta can come home.

Installing an Accessible Shower in Derby
Michael was having trouble getting in and out of his tub due to health issues. With our partner, the Vermont Center for Independent Living, we installed a walk-in shower for Michael. Now Michael can enjoy a safer environment in his own home and get on with living his life.

Installing a First Floor Bathroom
in Ryegate
Robert and Christine are unable to manage stairs
an
d live in a
house with the only full bathroom
on the second floor. This project was to build an accessible bathroom downstairs. We installed an accessible shower, a new lavatory, and
relocated
the toilet. We also
took care of a low water pressure problem and ran a hot air duct to the new bathroom. First floor bathroom accessibility will now make Robert and
Christine's life easier to manage.

- Aging in Place
- Home Preservation
- Neighborhood Revitalization

- Weatherization
We are now getting ready for this spring and summer's work.
This year, we are especially interested in taking on a home renovation project for a family living in a too-small space or in a house with multiple issues. If you are interested in participating in any of these programs and wonder if you and your home [or your neighborhood?] would qualify for a Habitat program, please contact Dan at 802-751-1212 or
[email protected].
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! If you would like to volunteer to be part of the efforts to improve the living conditions of our neighbors, helping to make our communities healthier, contact Jane at 802-751-1212 or
[email protected].
It's all about helping our NEK neighbors...and the communities they live in...to thrive.
Our mission: Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Update on NEK's 2016-17
Building It Forward Campaign
Last spring, we set a fundraising goal for Habitat for Humanity in the Northeast Kingdom's 2016-17 fiscal year: $38,600. We hope to raise this amount through special events, and through individual, corporate, and church donations.
This amount should be enough to carry out our plans to do Critical Home Repairs in Caledonia, Orleans and S. Essex counties through Ju
ne 30, 2017. As this fiscal year comes to a close, we've raised $25,324. Thank you to everyone who helped us from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.
In order to fulfill our promise to help more of our neighbors in the NEK, we need your help!
Information about our work so far this fiscal year is available at our office, or on our website. Call or visit anytime.
July 1st begins a new fiscal year ---our tenth anniversary in the NEK! We're celebrating it with a new campaign called "Ten Years: Ten Stories" and setting a new fund raising goal of $35,000.
Will you help? All donations will be gratefully received and can be sent to Upper Valley Habitat NEK, 459 Portland Street, Suite 2, St Johnsbury, VT 05819.
