 Working Together, Building Together
Carlos Bell, President
On behalf of the ACPE Board of Directors, I want to thank the membership for an excellent and well-attended national conference celebrating 50 years as an association. The 2017 Annual Conference had over 650 participants, which is the largest conference attendance on record. I encourage you to review the May 8, 2017 ACPE Monday Briefing from Executive Director Trace Haythorn that highlights important events at the conference.

Melissa Walker-Luckett, Chair,  2017 Annual Campaign
We have begun our 50th year with a bang, already raising over $56,000 in 2017 gifts and pledges to support our holy work. Let us continue the momentum! As Annual Campaign Chair and Chair-elect, George Grant and I challenge each of you to make a gift of "5" to ACPE in celebration of our anniversary. Your gift ensures ACPE remains the standard for spiritual care and education. Moreover, the more money we raise, the more opportunities we have to expand ACPE training to more spaces and places. We need you now more than ever!
grants awarded
The 2017 Innovative Program Award grant cycle is now open! Applicants are invited to submit proposals for innovative CPE projects that do not exceed $10,000. This year $29,000 is available in funding.

Grants may be awarded at three levels:
  • One grant may be awarded in the range of $7,501-$10,000
  • One grant may be awarded in the range of $5,001-$7,500
  • Other grants may be awarded in amounts up to $5,000 to the extent of funds available.
If no grants are awarded at the $10,000 or $7,500 maximum levels, funds reserved for these grants may be reallocated to provide support for projects at up to $5,000.
You can make a significant gift to ACPE that costs you nothing now, and will keep on giving for years to come. Your gift can also memorialize a loved one. Here's how:

A gift in your will is one way you can secure your estate and create an impactful legacy with ACPE. A gift in your will has many advantages:
Israel-Country
As a new initiative focusing special attention on the professional well-being of our Educators, we are proud to share this unique opportunity to travel together. In late January 2018 (specific dates to be determined), ACPE will be hosting a mission to Israel, a unique country that is home to many religions. This is a voluntary trip that is open to members of ACPE and their spouses/partners/significant others.

The mission will be a 10-day experience designed to foster community, offer opportunities for learning, to engage with one another, to experience the holy sites of Judaism, Christianity and Islam as well as the modern state of Israel, and to have professional opportunities to engage with colleagues in Israel who are in the emerging field of spiritual care with site visits to centers.

Communities of Practice

The description of Communities of Practice is now available along with a form to register your group. In August, the Finance Committee will begin building the 2018 budget, so we hope to have a sense of who will be requesting funds. Please let us know if you have questions.

ACPE Introduces New Logo, Titles, and Designations
During its 2016 meeting in Denver, CO, the ACPE Board of Directors decided to evaluate ACPE's branding and name. The association worked with a national communications agency to research its market position and messaging which included focus groups composed of diverse ACPE members and staff and online surveys. In March 2017, the board adopted a plan to keep the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education as its legal name, however, it will only promote the association as ACPE.

At the annual meeting last month, ACPE unveiled its new logo and tagline:
ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education.

Reflections from Summer Units
We'd love to hear from your students, especially stories of how their experiences have shaped their understanding, how they feel they have grown as spiritual caregivers, and how they see the world differently because of the ACPE experiences. If you have students who are willing, please send their stories to Jasmine Okafor. We love sharing your good work with foundations and others who support the mission of the ACPE!
