Summer Send-Off Bags Giveaway Event
United Way of Central Maryland

Help students in United Way's On Track 4 Success program this summer with some fun, educational and recreational goodies to take home at the end of the school year. Help give each student in grades four through eight a Summer Send-off Bag to get them ready for a fun and enriching summer! Volunteers will be distributing bags to students .

Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to participate.

Help Cleanup Bread and Butter Stream
Clean Bread and Cheese Creek
 
Date/Time: Friday, June 8, 9am - 2pm
 
Location: 1623 Merritt Blvd., Dundalk; meet at Palm Beach Tan in the shopping center.

In conjunction with Better Waterways, we will be targeting the area of the stream beginning with Danville Square Shopping Center and moving toward Bear Creek. Help us remove trash before it flows into Back River, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean! This cleanup is run as a family event with plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We welcome every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the cleanup. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks including:
  • Digging out shopping carts and hauling trash to the dumpsters.
  • Running water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek.
  • Sorting recyclables from the debris that is removed.
  • Assisting with registration, food and snack set-up, as well as many other less strenuous activities.
Volunteers will be provided with lunch, snacks, and water as well as gloves and trash bags. A limited number of tools are available for sign-out, but please bring your own if you have them. Learn more here.
 
Ages: Open to everyone. We welcome every type of person of every ability to assist. Volunteers under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
 
Time Commitment: Flexible - volunteer for as long as you like.

Join us at our warehouse to help wrap diapers and sort baby gear. Our volunteer sessions are a great way to spend some time giving back to children in need in Baltimore.
 
Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to participate. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

BioBlitz at Masonville Cove
National Aquarium & Masonville Cove Environmental Education Center
 
Date/Time: Saturday, June 16, 10am - 2pm
 
Location: Masonville Cove Environmental Education Center, 1000 Frankfurst Ave, Baltimore

Bioblitz is an all-day event where scientists, naturalists, students, teachers, families, and other volunteers work together to find, identify, and record as many living organisms that can be found in a specific habitat. By combining biological fieldwork and education, a bioblitz inspires stewardship in the local community. With the help of local experts, Masonville Cove BioBlitz volunteers will conduct a biological survey of the Cove through hands-on activities and learn about the actions needed to protect wildlife.

Ages: Volunteers must be at least 5 years old. All volunteers under 18 years old will need to be supervised by an adult.

Gardener Volunteers
Moveable Feast
 
Date/Time: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 8 - 10am, now through September 4.
 
Location: Duncan Street Miracle Garden 901 N. Milton Ave., Baltimore

The mission of Moveable Feast is to foster a community that cares for men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by preparing and delivering nutritious meals and groceries and providing nutritional counseling and other services. Soak up some sun and get your hands dirty by helping us plant, weed, harvest, and compost our garden plot. Our plot is part of a larger community garden called the Duncan Street Miracle Garden, located a few blocks from our office in East Baltimore. Moveable Feast provides tools and gloves. Please bring your own water, sunscreen, and dress appropriately for garden work.

Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to participate. No previous experience necessary.

Harford Family House
 
Date/Time: Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm. Please contact to schedule a drop-off time.
 
Location: 53 East Belair Ave., Apt. 3, Aberdeen
 
Harford Family House provides a fully furnished apartment to each of our families in need. When the families graduate from our program they are able to take many of the items with them, so we are always in need of household items. In addition, our families are able to access a supply closet on a weekly basis for cleaning supplies, toiletries and other personal hygiene items. Click the following links for items needed:
