Happy Friday!
First Church News & Updates - June 9, 2017

Today's trivia...the June full moon, which is tonight, is called the Strawberry moon. This month it is a minimoon... a full moon that is at or near apogee, the point in the satellite's orbit where it is  farthest from Earth . This is essentially the opposite of a supermoon, which refers to a full moon that occurs at perigee, or the point where the moon is closest to Earth. Minimoons look up to 14 percent smaller than supermoons and are slightly less luminous than regular full moons.

Sermon Series

Have you ever wondered why people say some of the things they do in difficult times? Some are helpful, but many are not!  "Everything happens for a reason." "You must not have been praying right." "You must have some unforgiven sin that caused this." So how do we cope during difficult times and how can we be truly helpful to others when those things happen to them? Surprisingly, one of the best places to get wisdom for those times comes from the sacred story of Job. So during the month of May, the pastors are sharing  Adults Say the Darndest Things based on the book of Job. Watch for unique use of music and drama along with intriguing angles of preaching. This is a series you will want to invite friends to, as it deals directly with some of life's peskiest questions.

Sermon Title:  "A Call Story - Could It Be Yours?"
Scripture:  I Samuel 3:1-11
Dr. Will Cotton will preach at all three worship services this Sunday. The Source , our weekly devotional guide, is available on the church website .

Please join us in worship this Sunday at  8:30 am (Sanctuary), 9:40 am (FLC), or 11 am (Sanctuary).
Words from Will...
It's Off to Annual Conference!
Beginning Sunday night and continuing through Wednesday noon, the delegation from First Church, Round Rock will be at Annual Conference in Mansfield, TX.  Katie, Beverly, and I will be accompanied by Dr. John Clifford, Rich Thompson, Bill Canet and Keitha Wilson.

We will adopt the 2018 budget for the Conference, hear reports from our major ministry areas, and
Annual Conference 2017
celebrate outstanding ministry efforts by churches of all sizes. We will be part of launching Project Transformation - a ministry that resides and builds Christian community in areas of economic need - our own Evan Perez will be sent forth on that first team! We will share in beautiful worship services in a variety of styles - with our own Tommy Prud-homme being commissioned as a Provisional Elder in the Ordination Service. We will also have teaching sessions with Kevin Watson, who specializes in creating discipleship small groups. There will also be debates about resolutions that local churches bring from a variety of concerns.
The Conference ends on Wednesday afternoon with the reading of pastoral appointments for conference year 2017-2018. It is with great excitement and joy that Katie, Beverly and myself will be returning to serve as your pastoral team. We know we serve the best church in the Central Texas Conference and look forward to what God will be doing with us in ministry together.

Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature
Dr. Will Cotton
Senior Pastor

P.S. I will preaching in all worship services this Sunday. In my mind, it will be one of the more important ones I have preached so far. Please make plans to be here if you are in town. If you will be out, make sure to view it on the website. Great things are happening at First Church!
Fir$t Match...the Spring 2017 Capital Matching Campaign
First Match Campaign

Campaign Total: $83,006.60!
Designated gifts include $533.34 for HVAC, $943.33 for Security and $1,091.33 for Tree Maintenance. Undesignated gifts totaled $80,438.60. When you consider that this was originally a $20,000 match campaign with a goal of $40,000, the final result was double that!

We particularly appreciate the groups that gave over and above their individual giving: Good News Sunday School Class, One in the Spirit Sunday School Class, Friends & Seekers Sunday School Class, LGBT Support Group, Dinner for 8, First Church Crafters, First Church Choirs, Jubilation Handbells,  Council Oak Bells, United  Methodist Men,  Stephen Ministry,  Finance Committee,  Staff Parish Relations Committee,  Board of Trustees, and the  First Church Staff.

First Match was led as a team effort by our Board of Trustees and our Finance Committee. The main architects of it were Karah Ricketts (Trustees), Mendy Barnett (Finance) and our Finance Chairperson, Steve Hayman.
Thank you for your prayerful and sacrificial generosity.

Women's Mission

First Church Women in Mission at Sager Brown
Thirteen First Church women have been working all week at the UMCOR Sager Brown Center in Louisiana, the hub of UMCOR's relief-supply operations. Each year, more than 2,000 volunteers prepare about $6 million in supplies for shipment from the Baldwin facility to areas hard hit by tornadoes, floods and more throughout the United States.

These hard working ladies are: Sandra Pippen, Judy Freund, Linda Simmering, Lucinda Johnson, Shannon Sloat, Pat Butler, Eleanor Johnson, Jeannie Smith, Bonnie Diebel, Patti Ruth, Ann Bell, Carie Watson, and Judy Harmon.
High School Mission

High School Students in mission in Las Cruces
This past week 103 High School students and adult volunteers went to Las Cruces for our annual Summer High School Mission Trip. While in Las Cruces, we partnered with the New Mexico Ramp Project by building wheelchair ramps for those in need. We were able to build 12 wheelchair ramps in one week all across the Las Cruces area, serving people with various needs. It was a fantastic week as the students stepped up and became the hands and feet of Christ. They were able to bless many families who didn't have a safe way out of their house and make their lives easier. Through mission this year, people were able to experience the love and presence of Christ in their life. We thank you all for your prayers and support for this group.Without you, trips like this would not be possible!
