EDI Benefit Dinner & Auction Raises Record Funds of $120,000

Inclusion Fusion Hosts
Executive hosts, Jenette Ramos and Cathy Slater, join Wallace Greene in greeting over 250 guests to Inclusion Fusion 

Executive Development Institute (EDI) held its annual benefit dinner and auction "Inclusion Fusion" at Seattle's SODO Park this month, raising a record amount of over $120,000.  

 

Hosts for the benefit dinner were Jenette Ramos, Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Cathy Slater, Weyerhaeuser Company.  Over 250 guests attended the benefit dinner including major sponsors, Boeing, Weyerhaeuser, KeyBank Foundation, State Farm Insurance, Nordstrom, and Wells Fargo.   Enrique Cerna, Executive Producer, KCTS Television, served as emcee and Laura Michalek, "Seattle's Fundraising Auctioneer," was the featured auctioneer. Read more

Perspectives on Pew Research Center Study on Asian-Americans

This month the Pew Research Center published a new study on Asian Americans as the country's fastest-growing ethnic group, now representing 5.8 percent of the population.  It reported that Asian-Americans, on the whole, have high incomes, high education levels and a healthy outlook on life. Although Asian and Pacific Islanders (APIs) are the fastest growing minority group and a vital part of the nation's talent pipeline, Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP) points out that APIs remain one of the least represented groups in leadership roles.  LEAP Statement

Frank Wu, chancellor and dean of the Hastings College of Law, University of California and author of "Yellow: Race in America
beyond Black and White," wrote a thought-provoking article in the 6/22 New York Times.  He points out that while the Pew findings reinforce the stereotype of Asian-Americans as model minorities, history also teaches us that Asian-Americans were also perpetual foreigners. He encourages caution about resentments that can develop from these two combined perceptions. Read more
 
The Pew Study continues to generate lots of reaction.  Sharon Pian Chan, Seattle Times editorial columnist wrote on 6/26 "Time to step up, Asian Americans."  She urges Asian-Americans to get involved and visibly participate this election season, as candidates and campaigners.  Read more
