Jon Bell, author of On Mount Hood
Friday, June 17th, 7:30 PM
On Mount Hood: A Biography of Oregon's Perilous Peak tells the story of Oregon's greatest mountain, a mountain that has shaped the very land of the Northwest. Through an engaging mix of first-person narrative, including an epic trip around the mountain on the storied Timberline Trail, and the stories of countless climbers, scientists, historians, and overall characters who have helped make Mount Hood the lively feature that it is, On Mount Hood builds a compelling story of a legendary mountain and its impacts on the people who live in its shadow every day.
Chapters throughout On Mount Hood cover everything from climbing, skiing, and weather to forest activism, Hood's retreating glaciers, unique flora and fauna, Native Americans, early pioneers, and more.

Wy'east Book Club
The Man From Beijing - by Henning Mankell
Tuesday, June 21st, 7 PM

The best-selling, award-winning author of the Kurt Wallander series delivers an incredible stand-alone masterpiece: a bone-chilling mystery that spans two centuries and four continents.
In the far north of Sweden a small, quiet village has been almost entirely wiped out by a mass murderer. The only clue left at the scene is a red ribbon. Among the victims are the grandparents of Judge Birgitta Roslin, who sets out to find the killer. Despite being brushed off by the police, Birgitta is determined to prove that the murders were not a random act of violence but are part of something far more dark and complex. Her investigation leads to the highest echelons of power and into the recesses of history where the seeds of evil deeds were planted.
Visitors and new members are always welcome! |

Meet the Author / Book-signing
Ray Tercek, author of The Investigation of Pepe Chavez
Friday, June 24th, 7:30 PM
In the early 1980s, Portland Police Sergeant Ray Tercek helped launch one of the nation's largest drug trafficking conspiracy investigations-something he didn't initially set out to do. When a small investigation into the activities of known cocaine trafficker Jose "Pepe" Chavez revealed a larger criminal conspiracy, it was apparent to Tercek and his team that traditional buy-bust methods of drug investigation would be ineffective to bring down the entire organization. As a result, a unique taskforce was formed. However, catching Chavez and his chief co-conspirator, James Barnard, would not be cut-and-dry. Tercek's efforts would be complicated by the internal politics of his own police bureau.
The Investigation of Pepe Chavez, et al., is Tercek's account of how a rookie sergeant with a new style of investigation led his team through the dirty underworld of adult entertainment shops and into the high-octane world of NHRA drag racing to catch their suspects. Tercek's team took down a conspiracy that moved drugs from South America through Mexico into several western states including Arizona, California, Washington, and Oregon. Tercek's narrative provides an introspective look at the mechanics of a historical conspiracy method of investigation and exposes the behind-the-scenes political wrangling that threatened to defeat the investigation at every turn. NOTE: A reception for Ray with no-host bar will be held at the Tap Room at the Rendezvous Grill beginning at 6PM prior to Ray's book event . |
