Julie Cox: Food Shuttle's new Child Hunger Programs Manager
Dave With Memorial Day over, it is now officially summer! For some of us, summer brings great things...holidays, cook-outs, and other outdoor fun and the like. But at the same time, summer brings real hardship for low-income working families. We know that hunger does not take a summer vacation, and neither do we!

I am excited to introduce you all to our new Child Hunger Programs Manager: Julie Cox. We looked long and hard to find someone with just the right qualities to step into Kyle Abrams' shoes, but we found her! Julie worked hand-in-hand with Kyle as a volunteer at several schools, so she is ready to hit the ground running. We know that Julie, along with team members Amber Simmons and Matthew Kershaw, will work hard to make sure kids get the nutritious meals they need.

And an important reminder: The MIX101.5/WRAL-TV BackPack Buddies Mediathon is coming up on July 13th. WRAL-TV will be conduct a day-long telethon to raise money for the Food Shuttle. Meanwhile MIX 101.5 will broadcast live from two separate locations collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Backpack Buddies program. We could not have a better media partner than Capitol Broadcasting-they truly understand that kids going hungry is unacceptable, and we are so grateful to them for helping us spread the word.

I hope you take a few minutes to read more about the people and programs that are making a difference, and come join us this summer!

Florence
Without IFFS it would be difficult for seniors to access & afford the food they need to eat well. As a bonus, Florence's neighbors now cook & share meals together.
