Stephen Ministers: The After People
People often ask, "What exactly is a Stephen Minister?" One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are the After People.

Stephen Ministers are there:
... after the phone call you hoped you'd never get.
... after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions you've held at bay come crashing in on you.
... after the relationship falls apart and the bottom falls out of your life.
... after the doctor says, "I'm sorry, but there's nothing more we can do."
... after the nursing home director shakes your hand and says, "Welcome to your new home."
... after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away-and the house suddenly seems empty.
... after the gavel comes down, the handcuffs go on, and your loved one is led away.
... after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you ever dreamed possible.
... after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck.
... after your family and friends have heard your story one too many times, but you still need to talk it out.

Stephen Ministers are the After People. They are ready to come alongside you-or your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives-and provide comfort and support for as long after as needed. If you would like to receive the confidential and skilled care of a Stephen Minister please contact one of our Stephen Leaders: Nancy Gay at 614-267-6418, Jane Rantz at 614-203-9869 or Cathy Davis at 614-262-1163.

"Love Will Win" Stonewall Columbus in Collaboration with CRIS
Wednesday, June 7 @ 7 PM
King Avenue UMC, 299 King Avenue

This year, in lieu of a a Pride Grand Marshal, Stonewall Columbus will recognize a group of brave individuals as Community Honorees: the LGBTQ refugees who have fled their homelands for fear of persecution or death. "LOVE WILL WIN" is a presentation created and shared by two Ugandan refugees who escaped religious and governmental persecution of their sexual orientation. Please RSVP to Stonewall Columbus or call 614.299.7764. Absolutely no photography is permitted.
Adult Mission Trip

Please join us on our adult mission trip to the Kanawha Valley. The Maple Grove Adult Mission Team is preparing to visit Clendenin west Virginia and help in rebuilding homes that were damaged in the 2016 devastating flood that hit the Elk river and Kanawha river valleys in our neighboring state. We plan to leave Maple Grove following the service on Sunday July 23, and return the following Saturday, July 29. If you can only spend a part of the week with us, that is fine. The work is always rewarding, and getting to know Maple Grove friends is a gift. You will return home with a feeling of accomplishment from being the hands of Christ for a few days. This year we are fortunate to have a bit of advance information because North Broadway UMC recently returned from their mission to the same small town. Some comments from their returning team are:  "This trip was by far one of our most memorable, in many ways," ..."The homeowners there had so much to give, despite so much loss. We formed a deep commitment with many of the people we met and worked side by side with throughout the week." Cost will be $250 per person which includes transportation, lodging and food (except for meals on the road). Come for all or part of the week! If you have never been on a mission work trip, plan to come along. The pay is not impressive, but the satisfaction factor is unique!

Maple Grove Millennials Conversation Circle
Friday, June 2 @ 7 PM
Fellowship Hall

Millennials: Come for the Conversation Circle THIS Friday, June 2  at 7 PM in Fellowship Hall.  What is a conversation circle you ask? People gathering in a circle to think together. Circles naturally slow people down, allow people to focus, create equality, and connect. Devoted to respectful conversation on a contemporary issue - possibly an issue that is currently being debated in your community, church, or school; a national issue of importance; an issue about which you personally have a keen interest. The power of the Conversation Circle comes from the sharing of ideas and thinking together in a safe environment that nurtures innovation, curiosity, and exploration. In the circle of conversation the questions are often more important than the answers. Reflective thinking is the outcome. Curiosity is the instrument. And ... snacks will be provided.
