Mayor's Message

Welcome to Engage Castle Pines! First, thank you to everyone who turned out for Food Truck Frenzy, hosted by the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce, on Saturday, June 2. It was a wonderful way to kick off the summer season with family, friends and neighbors while enjoying great food and fun music in Coyote Ridge Park. If you stopped by the City's booth that evening, you know that we officially launched our new online engagement tool, Engage Castle Pine.

Engage Castle Pines is designed to make it easy for Castle Pines residents to get involved, participate in shaping the community and provide ideas and feedback on a variety of topics affecting the community.

Through this new tool, Castle Pines staff and members of City Council will have the opportunity to listen to the community's feedback, provide timely project updates, and report back about how that feedback has contributed to decisions that are being made. By signing up, you will have the ability to provide comments and suggestions and stay in the loop about future project updates that are of interest to you.

Home Rule Survey
As a subscriber to the City's email newsletter, you should have received an email on Tuesday, June 5, inviting you to complete a survey about your perception and knowledge of home rule governance, and the process involved in transitioning the City to home rule. City Council hopes that you'll take a few minutes to complete the survey so we have a better understanding of the community's opinion regarding the home rule process. We will also be conducting random telephone surveys in the coming weeks.

I hope to see you around town this summer, enjoying our parks and trails! I personally want to thank you in advance for providing feedback online through the Engage Castle Pines website and the Home Rule survey.

Sincerely,
Mayor Tera Radloff

Miti-Goat for Wildfire Preparedness

2018 is predicted to be hot, windy and dry in Douglas County - dangerous wildfire conditions for communities like Castle Pines, designated as a Wildland-Urban Interface by the Colorado State Forest Service.

That's why five Castle Pines HOAs have committed to adapt their open spaces for community safety and wildland stewardship. They are hiring hundreds of goats to eat through oak groves to reduce the volatile fuels that threaten homes and natural areas.

The community is invited to attend Wildfire Miti-GOAT-ion Day, hosted by the PineRidge HOA, to learn more about the use of goats in fire mitigation.

Wildfire Mita-GOAT-ion Day
Saturday, June 23
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
PineRidge Open Space
(near the intersection of Castle Pines Pkwy. and PineRidge Tr.)

  • Meet local firefighters, Douglas County Sheriff's Officers and state foresters
  • Learn important fire mitigation and safety tips
  • Enjoy goat-themed activities for kids
  • Talk to biotech students from Rock Canyon High School who have studied the effects of goats in wildfire mitigation

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Place

By order of Sheriff Tony Spurlock, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place for Douglas County, including the City of Castle Pines. Prohibited activities include open burning of any kind and the use of fireworks.

City officials and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are dedicated to making sure Independence Day festivities leading up to July 4 are not only fun, but safe as well. Under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, the only permissible fireworks at this time are from professional fireworks displays that comply with Colorado state statute.

For a list of allowable activities while under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, visit the Douglas County Sheriff's Office website.

The illegal use of fireworks in the City may result in a maximum fine of $1,000. If you hear or see fireworks in your neighborhood, you are encouraged to call 911 or 303-660-7500.
