Greetings!

Well, folks, we've made it to summer - hooray!! Congrats to all on making it through yet another school year.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE CLOSED FOR SUMMER BREAK JULY 1ST TO JULY 6TH.

Despite the heat (and it's tendency to encourage laziness) Summer is actually a fantastic time to focus on music. We are pleased to be here to help you and your children stay on track. Here are a few quick ideas on making your summer more musical:

* Cultural field trips make great summer activities.  Watching world-class performers is inspiring! Many great performances happen locally at our very own Bankhead Theater! Check out the calendar HERE.

* Looking for practice motivation? Practice hours can become the currency that buys kids admission tickets to amusement parks, movies or other activities.

* Performing is fun (and a valuable learning experience)! Find or create unique performance opportunities during the summer, such as family reunion talent shows or performance BBQs & parties in the neighborhood!

As I'm sure you've seen advertised by the many posters around the studio, we have some fantastic programs to offer our students in the coming weeks. Our Summer Workshops are designed to fit students of all ages and skill levels, with options for just about every instrument (including voice). We have specifically focused our courses on providing unique opportunities for applying the material and skills learned in private lessons. Spaces are still available in most classes, so please do not hesitate to register!

Student of the Month
Congratulations to Adam King!

Grade: 4th
Student at Music Time since: April 2012
Hobbies (besides practicing): Karate, Soccer, School Choir

After a fantastic performance of the jazz standard "Mack the Knife" at our Spring Recital, we are excited to award this month's honor to an impressive young drummer, Adam. Adam quickly worked his way though his first drum set book, learning to confidently play a variety of musical styles including rock, funk, jazz, country and more. Now, as a member of our new Monday Rock Band, he can apply his skills to drive the beat for the group.

"Adam has been scat singing and drumming on all household surfaces since he was a toddler," says his mother, Carol, "so drums are a natural instrument for him."  We agree that Adam must have a natural knack for music - after all, his sister Ella is excelling in piano lessons, and his mother was even a guitar student here as well. Great work, Adam - keep up the practice!

Do you know a current Music Time Academy student with a newsworthy musical story or accomplishment from the past month that should be featured? If so, please fill out our online nomination form by following this link:  STUDENT OF THE MONTH NOMINATION FORM
