Bob Fraser Named CMSA Chairman
Bob Fraser and Patrick Longo

California Moving & Storage Association (CMSA) announced Robert "Bob" Fraser, owner of Redwood Moving & Storage (an agent for Stevens Worldwide Van Lines) of Healdsburg, California, as the 2016-2017 Chairman of the Board for the California Moving & Storage Association (CMSA). The announcement was made Saturday, May 14, during the 98th Annual CMSA Convention at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, California.

Fraser was escorted to his installation dinner by many former CMSA Chairmen in fashionably funky 70's wigs and dark glasses as he made his grand entrance. He was introduced to the membership by his longtime friend and brother-in-law, Steve Hill. Hill playfully cracked jokes about Fraser and then thoughtfully talked about their relationship and how proud he was of his friend.

Fraser then thanked everyone and introduced his family, close friends and colleagues that were in attendance. He talked about how former CMSA Chairman Jill Longo advised him that he needed to take in and embrace every moment because the year will fly by. Fraser took this advice to heart and remarked how he was embracing this special moment of having his family and CMSA family together for this momentous occasion in his life.

Fraser announced that his Chairman's Choice Charity would be the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). The mission of NBCF is to provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support services. This charity is close to his heart because two of his sisters are breast cancer survivors. At the Chairman's request and board's approval, CMSA will make a donation to NBCF in honor of his two sisters.

After his acceptance speech, Fraser was formally installed as the 2016-2017 CMSA Chairman with the passing of the ceremonial gavel from Senior CMSA Chairman Patrick Longo of Andy's Transfer & Storage.

The California Moving & Storage Association (CMSA) is a nonprofit trade association representing more than 375 licensed and insured movers operating in California. The CMSA also includes more than 195 associate member companies. Established in 1916, the CMSA is comprised of 12 chapters strategically located throughout California.

Healdsburg's Wednesday Farmers Market Now Open

It's that time of year again: The winter rains (remember them?) have dwindled to an occasional shower,  wild mustard has come and gone in the vineyards, the swallows have returned to Capistrano and the eaves of your barn, and the Wednesday Farmers Market opens in Healdsburg.

It's not a big market yet, but a vital congregation of town's folk who love to eat and eat to love. Most of us who gather in the North Street parking lot are small family farmers who want to share our stories with you while we sell  our produce and yummy food specialties. An idea for your Wednesday afternoons: take a break from work or shopping, stop by Shed for a bracing cup of tea, then amble over to the Market to pick up tasty and healthy fixin's for dinner. Go home with a smile knowing that you are part of an exciting local food movement.

The opening June 1st market featured: plums; blackberries (marion, olallie and logan); strawberries and raspberries; spring onions, garlic and leeks; roots galore, lettuce and leafy greens; and ohmygod the first hint of summer zucchini and basil.  Have you tried the crispy fried chicken from Backyard Catering? We're expecting them along with popsicles from Real Cool Frozen Treats. The farmer proudly touting her wares could be your neighbor: say hi to Autumn's Garden (Autumn and her granddad), Alexander Valley Farm (Wetzel/Murphy), Bernier, Reyes, Middleton (Woods), Preston, and Ridgeview (Kiff).

Join the Market every Wednesday, June - October, 3:00 - 6:00, rain or shine, in the North Street (Purity Building) parking lot. There will be dedicated free parking for market shoppers.

A Request for Sponsorship Help

Dear Healdsburg Chamber members,

On Saturday, June 25th, Farm to Pantry is hosting its second Summer Supper, our annual fundraising event. Our first Summer Supper in 2015 was an overwhelming success, and our goal is to match or exceed that result in 2016. We are writing to ask that you consider becoming or returning as a Sponsor of our event this year.

Farm to Pantry is a local nonprofit dedicated to developing and supporting local, sustainable programs that provide fresh, affordable food to those in need. Since Farm to Pantry's origin in 2008, our volunteers have picked more than 110 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables and distributed them to local food pantries, schools, and charities. Much of this produce is excess bounty that ordinarily would have fallen to the groundÍž instead it is feeding our community.

Farm to Pantry's Summer Supper will attract business professionals, leaders of the food industry, winemakers and philanthropists from around Healdsburg and Sonoma County. Our guests are committed to our cause and are well connected and deeply rooted to the community.

Our Sponsors will enjoy positive exposure within Healdsburg and Sonoma County as well as at the event itself, which generates media publicity highlighting our Sponsors and their support of the event and community. We are focused on making the event festive, inspirational and efficiently run. In the enclosed package you will find complete information on Farm to Pantry, sponsorship details, and a sponsorship form. We greatly appreciate your taking the time to consider supporting this important event and look forward to including you among our list of generous Sponsors.

Sincerely,

Melita Love

Pastels and Monotypes by Daniele Todaro
Upstairs Art Gallery, Reception: June 11, 2 pm-5pm

Daniele Todaro's pastel landscapes and monotypes are guaranteed to make you smile.  The joy she feels while creating her art and her love of Sonoma County's landscape can be seen in her use of expressive colors and complex texture.  Regarding her pastel landscapes, she says, " This series came about while driving the  gorgeous back roads in Sonoma County where I saw several out buildings on a hill. The way the sun shone on the hills and illuminated those buildings made me smile. Later, when I began to paint, I found myself laughing with joy at the fun I was having."  Meet the artist on Saturday June 11, 2 to 5 pm.  The gallery is open daily 11 am to 6 pm and until 9 pm on Friday and Saturday.  306 Center Street, on the Plaza, Healdsburg. 707-431-4214. www.upstairsartgallery.net.
