Dear Bearcats:

We are already halfway through 2015. June is here and it's jam-packed with golfing, family fun, happy hours and lunches; in other words, we have a variety of opportunities for our Bearcats to get together.

We kick things off on Friday, June 5, with our 58th annual Alumni and Friends Golf Outing, which will be played on Latrobe Elks and Champion Lakes Golf Courses. After the round of golf we come back to the Rogers Center for our steak dinner and awards ceremony. Let's keep our fingers crossed and say a few extra prayers that we have beautiful weather and an all-around great day for our bearcat alumni and friends of Saint Vincent College.

On Saturday, June 6, the Alumni Office will be greeting our grads at the annual Bearcat Family Zoo Day at the Pittsburgh Zoo. We have secured the Kids Kingdom Pavilion from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and will have refreshments and light snacks for our visiting Bearcats. Be sure to be there by 11:30 a.m. for the live animal demonstration.

Our regular monthly lunches are held on the second Friday (on campus) and third Tuesday (at Giannilli's II in Greensburg, Pennsylvania). Both lunches provide us the opportunity to connect with alumni as well as to have great food. To register, contact the Alumni Office at 724-805-2568.

Speaking of lunches, on Thursday, June 18, from noon-1 p.m., please make plans to join your fellow Bearcats at the Teutonia Mannerchor as we break bread together enjoying traditional German fare. This lunch continues to be one of the favorites of our local grads, so I hope you will be free to join us.

Our events for June conclude at the end of the month as the Alumni Office heads south to engage our Virginia Bearcats. Wednesday, June 24, finds us pulling into the city of Richmond as we have a happy hour planned at Big Al's Sports Bar & Grill from 5-7 p.m. The next evening, Thursday, June 25, the office heads to Virginia Beach for some more happy hour fun. From 5-7 p.m., please make plans to join me and your fellow Bearcats at The Yard House.

Please visit our social media sites for event details and registration instructions. I hope to see you at one or more of these events this month. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Go Bearcats!

Victor A. Yanchuleff, C'73

I have said, many times over, that if I had any four years to repeat, those years would be, without a doubt, 1969 to 1973, the years that I spent at SVC. Those years were exciting ones, both educationally and in the world itself. Many things happened, both good as well as bad, during that period. The political unrest, especially over the Vietnam War, the break-up of The Beatles, the Jets upsetting the Colts in Super Bowl III, and I could go on and on. I think of all of the classes that I was a part of there. Those with Father Cuk, Father Vernon and Father Simon. I think of the card games in the dorm with Simon and my classmates. I recall golfing with him as well. I recall my conversations with Vernon as to psychological matters and how enlightening they were. I remember all of the evenings spent at the then-Halula's with my friends over pizza and beer. I do not get back there as frequently as I would like, but when I do, all of these things run through my mind. The primary thing was the quality of the education, without which I would not have been as successful as I have for the past 40 years that I have worked. Looking back, I do not think that I could have made a wiser decision than having chosen to attend SVC. The happiest moment was when I was handed my diploma on May 5, 1973. The saddest was immediately after,  knowing the dream was over.

today.
