Kirk Care's Volunteers and Board members are humbled by and thankful to the Kirkwood community. Thanks to the volunteers who make food deliveries. Thanks to those who donate food and/or cash. The generosity of the Kirkwood community is one of the attributes which make this a wonderful place.
In the past 3.5 years, the Kirkwood community has enabled Kirk Care to provide within the R7 district:
Food deliveries and supermarket vouchers
(for dairy, produce, and meat) to more than 3100 families)
Limited utility assistance to 725 families.
Limited housing assistance to 40 families
TODAY, Kirk Care is experiencing a potentially bad situation. Two years ago food requests were 70 to 80 per month (all in the R7 district). Now the number is over 110 per month. At the previous level, the overflow in food donations from the Christmas distribution along with ongoing support carried the pantry well into the summer. Today, donations are barely covering the demand.
In the summer, with no school lunches, requests typically increase, donations typically decrease. We ask all who support Kirk Care to continue support at a significant level during the summer season. Both food and cash will really help hungry families and their children.
