Named Rookie of the Year
I am humbled and incredibly honored to be named Rookie Of The Year  by Texas Monthly. Not only was I the lone San Antonian acknowledged in TM's "Best and Worst" legislative recap, but I was one of only three Democrats in the Texas Legislature to be recognized for our diligent work this session.

I want to thank my hard working team who are dedicated to the residents of Texas House District 124 and to the great state of Texas. I am fortunate enough to have staff who are supportive of me and contribute to our success as a team.

Since I received the honor of being elected to the Texas House of Representatives, I have always remained loyal to my core values. It is so important to find common ground and reach across the aisle in order to make policy better through thoughtful amendments or to favorably pass our key legislative issues during the session. I vow to always fight for our families and hope I continue to make my constituents proud to call me their State Representative.

Sincerely,

Ina Minjarez
State Representative HD 124

All of our bills on Governor's desk have been signed into law!
Last Sunday, June 18th, was the deadline for the Governor to veto any bills left on his desk. Fortunately for the state of Texas,  7 of our authored bills that reached his desk were signed into law! Furthermore, 7 bills we Jointly-Authored have become law, as well as 27 we Co-Authored. In a session where very few bills had a hearing or saw the light of day at the other chamber, we were able to have 41 bills turn into laws---most of which will become in effect September 1st. Without a doubt, this proved to be a very successful session for #TeamIna!

SB 179 - David's Law / Cyberbullying in Schools
This bill amends current law relating to harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying of a public school student or minor and injury to or death of a minor and creates a criminal offense. This bill would require that school districts include cyberbullying in their district policies on bullying and notify parents if their child has been the victim of bullying or is the alleged aggressor. This bill would also give schools the ability to investigate bullying off campus if it materially affects the school environment. Finally, recognizing that bullying is also a mental health issue, the bill would encourage schools to invest in counseling and rehabilitation services for the victim and the aggressor.

"I am very happy that the Legislature decided to work on such a bipartisan issue that strikes the proper balance between eliminating cyberbullying and helping kids who need it the most," Rep. Ina Minjarez said. "No longer will cyberbullying be acceptable in our schools thanks to the memory of those for whom this law is for. We appreciate the families, advocates, and all who made this bill possible."
