When I lived in the gorgeous landscape Southeast Alaska, I loved to go outdoors for Kabbalat Shabbat regardless of the weather. I developed a service that I called "It's not the weather'; it's the gear Kabbalat Shabbat service which made it possible to do Kabbalat Shabbat at anytime of the year. One of the features of this service were laminated passages from the Kabbalat Shabbat service that were hung from trees. We would wander from tree to tree along the trail and chant Kabbalat Shabbat like the mystics of Tsefat (but usually we were a lot wetter.)
We are going to bring this service to our summer Shabbats at Carkeek Park (see below) with hopefully much better weather. The Heart of Shabbat Ensemble will lead us through the woods and the trees will be filled with the sound of music! Come join us for one of the most fun and beautiful Kabbalat Shabbats you have ever experienced. See below.
One other note, in this newsletter we invite you for the first time to join Panim Hadashot-New Faces. We have given a lot of thought about this and have set up a process that is affordable and respects the other affiliations each of us has. We see Panim Hadashot-New Faces as providing a unique experience that complements other forms of Jewish commitment. Consider making us one of your Jewish commitments.
I wish you a delightful summer of sun and fun.
