MAY 29, 2013
Greetings!

Playing catch-up this week after our usual Memorial Day weekend at Indianapolis. It was good to see a lot of familiar faces at the Memorabilia Show Saturday and my God, WHAT A RACE!! Most of you know that I'm not exactly a fan of spec cars, but what we witnessed on Sunday was perhaps the best 500 - and maybe the best race - I've ever seen. The lead changes, the closeness of the field (especially during a one hour plus green flag period in the middle of the race) and the emergence of a solid core of young stars (Marco, AJA, RHR) and great veterans bode well for the future of Indy Car racing, despite what you hear from some naysayers. And you couldn't have picked a winner more popular than Tony Kanaan. I've never seen so many people waiting after the race for the traditional Pace Car Victory Lap. Granted, there were a lot of empty seats (but not as many as you regularly see at NASCAR races the past couple of seasons) and TV ratings were down a bit but the buzz from what happened at the Speedway on Sunday will resonate. Hopefully, we'll see bigger crowds the rest of the season and a May 2014 that could possibly match or exceed what we saw this year.

JIM CLARK AUTOGRAPHS:
We are currently offering 4 different items autographed by the great Jim Clark. Two on black and white photographs, one on a race program along with the signatures of Graham Hill and John Surtees and an autograph book circa 1960 that also contains the signatures of such greats as Juan Manuel Fangio, Jo Siffert, Louis Chiron, Paul Frere, Briggs Cunningham, Masten Gregory and 'Lucky' Castner. BOOK NEWS:
Spoke with authors Donald Davidson and Rick Shaffer at Indianapolis over the weekend and they confirm that the long-delayed updated edition of the Autocourse Official Illustrated History of the Indianapolis 500 will finally appear this fall. An update thru 2012 and a tribute to Dan Wheldon will be added to the original, making this 400 page epic the best reference to the 500 available. First edition copies have been bringing $300 a pop since they went out of print a couple years ago. We are accepting advance orders for the new Edition HERE and will be announcing a special offer in conjunction with the book later this summer.

Better late than never has been the story with several excellent books this year. Simon Taylor's long awaited 'Motor Sport Greats in Conversation' has finally arrived. It contains 24 interviews from his acclaimed 'Lunch with' series in Motor Sport magazine.

Last call for Autocourse 2012/13. We have just received what will probably be our final shipment of the popular Formula One annual. $69.99 plus shipping. Order HERE.
