Dear Friends of A Novel Experience,

The pool is open! We are referring to our annual pick of great beach or poolside books to be enjoyed without guilt or distraction from that big pile of titles we all have--our "must reads" that deal with weighty matters or have garnered worldwide literary prizes. It's summer, y'all! Read for fun! Pick up a steamy romance or a who-done-it from our kiddie pool filled with the kind of books that will engage you while relaxing under an umbrella or on the porch of a mountain cabin without television reception. Spoiler Alert!: We can almost guarantee that every one of these ends up with a happy or at least, a satisfying ending!

This month we feature the tiny miracle of artist trading cards--Brenda will create a display of these baseball-card-sized original works in all mediums--and we'll welcome yours all month if you are inspired by our early bird submissions. We hear that these minis are a great way to get the lapsed artistic juices flowing again--try one and see. We'll have an ATC Reception on Friday, June 24th from 6-8 pm for those who would like to meet the artists and trade (or purchase) cards.

We must mention Father's Day. It's June 19th. We've been thinking about the different character of this day compared to Mother's Day--we'd love your take on it. Different, but no less important--please give your dad a hug and spend some time with him. Think about a book for a gift--we have dad-worthy titles that yours might find intriguing from baseball to history to BBQ to spy thrillers.

Please indulge us as we climb aboard our soapbox...our local Library deserves our support. It represents for us, and for the world, the things we consider important as a community. It is a irreplaceable resource for citizens who want to learn, explore, and contribute--they find books, periodicals, and have access to the internet (yes, many places in Pike are still "dark" as far as broadband goes...). The staff is creative, gracious, and helpful for patrons. They have designed a fabulous Summer Program for kids--and have also ginned up some events for adults. Consider stopping by and participating. Thank you, Rosemary and your staff for doing "a lot with a little"--we salute you!

Looking ahead: Every third weekend in September, our store welcomes hundreds of photography fans and makers to SlowExposures--it's the festival that celebrates photography of the rural South. We'll host one of the 2016 satellite shows featuring Don Norris from Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  For the many photographers on our list, the 2016 Call for Entries has been released (as well as the one for our 2016 Young Photographers Show)--check it out at www.slowexposures.org.

And, remember to come by and tell us what you've been reading!
