Students Receive Foundation Scholarships at Awards Days

IN LATE MAY, our staff spanned out across Forsyth County to present scholarship awards at high school Awards Days. It's always an honor to present this significant financial support to deserving students! To view a list of 2018-2019 Foundation scholarship recipients to-date, click here .

While many scholarships have already been awarded, we will continue to make awards during the summer months for students who demonstrate financial need. Click here for more information on these scholarships with a July 31 deadline, keeping in mind that applications submitted earlier in the summer will more likely have funding availability. #wsf4college

Want to Support Scholarships for Deserving Students?
THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY of many community members, the Foundation’s 121 student aid funds provided 508 students with $978,000 in scholarships last year. However, each year we have many more requests for student aid than we have funds available.

Consider a donation to our general scholarship fund to help us say "yes" to more deserving students!
Local Couple is Making Giving More Meaningful
MICHELLE AND ALEX SCHENKER met in Los Angeles in 2002 but have been living and working in Winston-Salem for over a decade - and they are proud to call this city home. The couple has supported local nonprofits - including Project Pearl and 88.5 WFDD - for years, but began to take a more thoughtful approach to giving after opening donor-advised funds at the Foundation in 2015.

May Community Grants: $611,000 to Local Nonprofits
21 LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS received more than $611,000 in Community Grants in May. This vital support is made possible by donors to unrestricted and field of interest funds and to our flexible grantmaking and Community Leadership funds. We are indebted to these donors for their visionary support of our community.

Congratulations to all of our May Community Grants recipients !

Broadening Philanthropy in Our Community
Black Philanthropy Initiative
Last year BPI hired Gramercy Research Group to gather and synthesize data on the status of Black families in Forsyth County to guide future work, grantmaking, and community activities; the full report will be available this summer. BPI is also gearing up for Black Philanthropy Month in August, and they are finalizing event details. Stay tuned!

The Women's Fund
of Winston-Salem
Members and guests gathered this month for a Social Change Exchange to delve into the Women's Fund's new Advocacy Playbook, which outlines a variety of advocacy tactics and helps readers build a personal plan of action to make their voices heard.
